Looking for some olde schoole 70's/80's photos of shop fronts in the style of this:

I'm sure some of you have some, but they're extremely thin on the flickr/google images ground. :(

Posted

Do they have to be head on like your example, or just photos of the frontages? Because I've got this...

(While we're here, this seemed relevant to the site)

Thanks all!! Prefer front on, but can bend them about in photoshop. Have you got the Flickr links so I can see 'all sizes'?

I love that old WHS cube logo. I hate the new computer 3D effect logos. Emulsion single colour logos FTW.

While we're on 80's brand names, has anyone seen those McVities and Marks & Spencer 'St Michael' trailers in the farmer's field next to the (Runcorn/Warrington) M56 ?

That's the US Fine Fare - the old Fine Fare in Blackpool is still adorned with this thing of beauty:

So am I - I'm fairly sure the box logo is still on the windows in B'stoke, I'll have to have a look when I walk past tomorrow! The M&S in Festival Place still had a 1970s green and yellow logo at the end facing Church Street until a couple of years ago. And the early 1970s Woolworth's logo lived on in Basingstoke well into the following decade - I think we missed out on the Winfield 'W' completely!

I've seen the knackered McVities one but not the Mark's one. I used to pass it on the way back from Daresbury.

Does anyone know how you can save a copy of that picture? I can't find an option to download it? :?
Ok, thanks for your answers everyone, I've defeated it now! :D

There is an even simpler way: So simple - it's unbelievable. You just change the place where you right click to the absolute bottom of the image. Seriously. If you want to know why it seems to work, use the web developer extension for Firefox and outline all images, the spaceball image seems to lie at an offset of a couple of pixels from the bottom.

yes Ashish..that was really unbelievable, but so simple...just right click on the bottommost edge of the image and save..!!

Finally 'spaceball' thwarted!

This surely is covered by the obscene publications act 2008? This would be a proud display in my autoshite museum.

This is exactly the same as the version my Dad had, although without the pumped up tyres and Wolfrace slots. I get the feeling Mr Hairychestwig who owned this car probably couldn't afford to run a Boss Mustang so had to settle for this and pretend to have 4 extra cylinders.

John Menzies (is it to be pronounced John Mings) was the 2nd outfit to make me redundant at the age of 16. I had a paper round with them but after WHSmiths took over and closed the Biggleswade shop down

In firefox, just use the AdBlock extension addon and just 'adblock' spaceball.gif

I think it's on the other side, the sheep are always under it. :)

I installed the adblocker but I couldn't see where you 'block' anything!

When I was a boy all pubs in Scotland had a sign like that (all the major breweries had their own equivalent), with the pub's name on it. They must be due for a revival soon surely.
