Xantia V6 Activa

Hi There,

I owned a V6 Xantia Exclusive (by the way, there isn't an Activa V6, it's either a 3 litre V6 or an Activa, which is a 2 litre Turbo) for 4 years and it was great, a real "wolf in sheeps clothing".

I bought it for £4k with 64k miles on the clock in March 2004 and I drove it (hard) with no probs until the gearbox gave out at 125k, so I then spent £2650 getting it fixed (along with a few other jobs) and it was never the same again. I regretably sold it for £500 to some guy who enquired about it as it stood on my driveway for approx 12 months without turning a wheel.

If I could find another V6 with low miles I would certainly buy it.

Hydraulics are not a problem with Xantia's despite the press. Spheres cost no more than shock absorbers and the latest version on the V6 are fine.

If you don't want the car can you let me know where it is and I may purchase it myself, but only if it's pristine and with service history and the cam belt done (which should be at 75k miles) or at 6 years.

Hi SteveJ and welcome to the forum.

I doubt he's still after one as the OP posted the original thread over a year ago  oh and he's in Sweden :D .

Sounds like you really like them though to spend £2600 on repairing one!.

I read an old CAR magazine report on the Activa t'other week. They ran one as one of their fleet for a bit. Looks a very interesting car. Sadly probably all but extinct here I guess.

I know two nutters who've got them. I'd invite them to Autoshite, but it'd end up very silly.

They do turn up on the bay from time to time, always cheap as chips, i'd hit one right up.

I passed up on the chance of a P-plate 2.0 Turbo Activa Estate for 600 quid, 12months Mot, 6 months tax just before I left the UK, my heart wanted the car, but my head said "This car will bankrupt you in an instant"

So I went out and bought a tatty Volvo base-model S40 instead.... still kicking myself over that one.

The Xantia is probably still for sale, tiny little car yard at the back of a Church on Stafford Street in Walsall.

I was bidding on one a few months ago. I bid £350 on it and forgot about it and it went for £385. Was a bit gutted really. Would have been a whole world of pain for my mechanically inept brain but for that money who would care.

Yesterday I testdrove a Xantia V6 activa ,2000 model year. Very smooth and fast, but dare I take the plunge into complex hydropneumatics?

Anyone out there with experiences to share?

The car have 70000 miles on the clock, asking price 2000£

You are lucky to find a V6. Never imported into the UK but there are a few conversions that need three cars apparently, an Activa, a Xantia V6 Exclusive and a 406. Not cheap.

I think they were only available as the 2.0 Turbo CT here.

For some in depth info and experiences of owners/users have a dig through this lot and these too.

For the V6, the autobox is likely to be the headache if it hasn't had an oil change, which is more than likely as they are sold as 'sealed for life' (nonsense). Very expensive to fix or replace if they fail, unless you DIY in which case a lot of time and patience, along with special tools, are essential.

The anti-roll rams are very expensive too now, as are the special bushes for them. As always, there are fixes and ways around this but as above, needs patience and some special tooling.
