Pics from my local drive-in

Couldn’t be bothered to cook tonight, so took Mrs R and R jnr to the drive in for burger and fries.

Managed a couple of pics, though was slightly hampered by the cries for food!

If you liked American, there was something there for everyone - and an original mini van with sliding windows :)

Sorry for the poor pic quality. The sun was at that eye crippling angle where I couldn’t really see the phone screen!

loved the colour on this car matched with the chrome. Tempted to do the 911 in a similar style.

Worth snapping for the plate alone! ‘Go-cat-go’ on a cougar no less!

The evening was all served up with a burger with onions, crinkle cut fries and if that wasn’t heart unfriendly enough, a diet root beer float (root beer with ice cream floating in the top!)

And it can stay there too, trying and failing to bask in former glories!

Nothing but an S-type in a gaudy frock!

That said - WOULD!

Everyone was out in the Roobarb household, so put on my sling back open mesh driving gloves and tottered down to the diner for a burger and chinwag.

Next year will be the 60th anniversary of the place. The owner bought it from his Dad and has worked there his whole life!

was more into the root beer and burger than taking pics, but still managed a couple.

I need to spend some time in the USA. That 57 Fury is lovely, and the Mercury Cougar is one of my favourite muscle cars

That's a really good turnout for "small town".

Regularly arranged cruise night or people just turn up?

People just turn up.

The place is only open in the summer - sells Christmas trees through autumn and winter and then the owner vacations down south after Christmas.

We have a couple of local Autoplexes where football players bring their Bugatti’s and Lambos and the real rich guys bring expensive cars, but other than car clubs joining up to cruise there, the cars typically aren’t as varied. This is someones video from the smaller of the two Autoplexes laste weekend - about 15miles from me.

Do you have any meets near you?

I don’t know why but Minnesota has some great classic car shows. We have ‘Back to the 50s’ in June which was the USA Today’s best car show this year.

Around 12,000 cars and 100,000 visitors from all over the states.

It can become a bit of a zoo though, with so many people going.

It’s usually pretty hot and very tempting to buy something your not going to get thanked for when you get home. (I nearly bought a Willy’s pickup a few years ago).

There's a few, but a case of what you define "near", most are at least an hour's drive away, and rarely on that scale.

The only really really big event is Cruisin'The Coast, which has turned into Rich Kids Driving Fast New Cars Recklessly Up The Beach Road.

Still trying to finish the build so I can go though.

That’s a shame. I feel much the same about the Lambo and Bugatti crowd in general (those that take them to the local track get big respect!)

If you get the chance, you should try back to the 50s next year. No cars over 64 1/2 allowed.

Weeds out mustangs which is kind of a shame, but some great cars otherwise. That’s a 30-40 minute drive from the house.

Minneapolis / St Paul (twin cities) county fair ground.

From the flyer, it looks like it’s going to be on June 19, 20, 21 next year.
