I would assume that it would fit the bellhousing but not sure what you would need to get the injection pump working

It will be a power increase but its not a bolt in job, from a quick google pretty much everything needs making custom to suit, engine mounts, exhaust and coolant pioework etc. The TDI has an intercooler which your TD won't so something needs doing there. Lots of people mention having gearbox ratios modified but maybe they started with a petrol engine.

 

Also the Passat engine needs an ECU to run, the cars immobiliser is in the clocks so you either need a matched ECU, clocks and key set from the same car or to get the ECU flashed to remove the immobiliser. If you do that you still need a throttle pedal sorting as the TDI uses a potentiometer rather than a cable.

 

On the plus side it is a well trodden path, but it looks like most people just drop the van off with a converter and pay £4k+ to have it done.

 

Given that fucked mk4 golfs etc are not worth a lot, you're probably better off starting with a full car.
