PhilA Posted March 7, 2020 Author Posted March 7, 2020 Bought 2 bolts, 2 nuts, 2 plain washers and 2 lockwashers yesterday. Bonnet release pull is now attached to the dash again. Need to come up with a method of attaching the end to the release latch reliably. No other news, things are on pause around here right now. Phil
PhilA Posted March 8, 2020 Author Posted March 8, 2020 I reviewed today and decided to hell with it. I had a rummage in my random nuts and bolts and reassembled the slam panel, connected the hood latch, set the striker pin so now the thing locks and can be opened by pulling on the handle inside. I also ran the engine and set the cold idle and choke. I now smell of Eau D'Autoshite (heavily choked exhaust from a cold engine with no catalytic converter). Feeling a little better mentally now. hairnet Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 how can you be mental when you buy a car like that talking of bonnet catches how come lots of us stuff (60s) has the pull on the outside usually in the grille?

PhilA Posted March 21, 2020 Author Posted March 21, 2020 Removed the spark wire tray and the old wires and attacked it with hammers. It's now the shape it should be. (Previous keeper had let the engine fall over and it bent all the sheet metal on the side of the engine). Hammers are good therapy. Phil Skizzer, xtriple, LightBulbFun and 1 other 4

PhilA Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 Today I got ready to go out to the grocery store. Took a piece of sheet steel and marked it out to size. I chopped the rectangle out and de-burred the edges. Bend bend bend bash bash bash That looks about right and the wires fit through. A squirt of black paint and I'm calling that done. Metal work can be good therapy. Phil Asimo, xtriple, DeeJay and 5 others 7 1
PhilA Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 I laid the new wires out on the floor. There are a few lengths, so I set the longest ones furthest from the distributor (made sense, really). I measured the length of wire needed from the bracket to the plug for each wire and marked it with tape. Clamped it all together as an assembly. Tried it on for size. Looks good. PhilA Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 Got a replacement oil filler cap on the way also, as that one is irreparably dented. Phil
