That looks like a top purchase! Well bought!

That and welcome along to a world where we all go mad for an ageing Proton. You’ve found an inter web home here sir.

I'll probably never get such a big welcome anywhere else :-D Hoping to get it up to scratch for future MOTs - at 43,000 miles it has a lot of life left in it.

looks braw, remember being at the local dealer's launch night for the mpi, a 1 spoke steering wheel... wow...

Cheers! Yes, the one-spoke steering wheel is interesting. Feels like sitting at the helm of an old Citroen.

Well bought, and good to hear the owners club are being helpful. I always got the feeling it was full of adenoids and arrogance.

I never had any trouble m8 ;)

I suggested a strap line, for the top of their banner page, "Cmon, talk the torque"... Was a winner and I scored a logo'd rally jacket - club pens & tea mugs !!

Really cool guys and the MPi spares guy is a treasure....

The spares guy is a hero - he's stockpiled stuff left-right and centre to preserve these motorised marvels for future Shiters. He has contacts with Proton in Malaysia too for any dealer-only parts.

You may know (... or find out!) the brake discs are fitted 'inboard' of the bearing hub = you must dismantle the bottom end/hub to get a disc off/on :)

Ah ok - I've not looked yet. Planning to put the discs on for the next MOT in April 2019. The days before discs were face-fit.

Well, got it the end of May....

I put my troublesome Subaru Legacy diesel into an auction (DPF andEGR valve failed plus other emissions stuff was constantly going wrong), and bought this old 1993 1.5 Proton from Gumtree with 12 months MOT and 43k genuine miles as a runaround. Except the runaround is so fun I'm keeping it a while.

The Proton Owner's Club is amazingly helpful and I got a new cambelt, waterpump, 2 x belts, tensioner for a giveaway price. There's still a Proton dealer (Maple Garage) in Sproatley, near Hull, who got me a new window lifter rail for £14 from Malaysia.

The car hadn't been driven for a long time so as it's my only car and a daily driver, I also gave it new plugs, rotor arm, distributor, new CV gaiter, oil and filter change and new air filter. Probably equalled the car's value now in parts but it's reliable and runs/starts faultlessly. Nice to have a car I can tweak :-)

It's amazingly comfortable and a two-hour drive across London went without a hitch.

Loving the HubNut videos - my latest time-loss activity :-)

Cheers :-)
