Mash Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 If it's not the wheels needing balancing what is the most likely cause before I start taking th whole front end apart?
Andrew353w Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 MIGHT be iffy tyres! Have a look at the tyres and see if they're out of kilter? If changing the front tyres for the back stops the problem then the tyres are the problem. The tracking could also cause the problem, but I doubt it!Andrew353w

It's a full new set were balanced and tracked when fitted a couple of months ago, though I may take them and get the balancing checked again too. It sets in just over 50mph and gets smoother above 60.
trigger Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 ^^ What he said, I had a shake on the steering as well on the '02, turned out to be a knackered tyre which was out of shape.Swapping front's to rear can help.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I find these vibes problems almost always end up being tyre-related, they can get a barely-perceptible egg shape on em and you can spend yonks trying to track down the source of the vibes. Specially on a front-driver. Have a good old swap-round and see what happens.
Guest Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I would go with the tyres, though I would go with simply checking the pressures first - most of my woes tend to be that, on the Charmant it's amazing how much pressure they can lose and still look "up".
v6pop Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Had a problem with my Pop for some years(viva ha front axle),rebalanced the wheels, changed tyres but no help.Woke up one morning and thought Wheel Hubs!Took them off, used a static balancer and one hub was out.Added weights to the hub and refitted........bingo!! perfect drive Only took 4 years to get it sorted
VWPowered Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 bearings??.. CV boots??? driveshafts??.. wheel balance??.. warped wheels.??? warped discs??..
Pillock Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 I had a tyre go egg-shaped on the back of the Saxo, you could even feel the back end going up and down at low speed.
