The late Cat equipped Lada Rivas were notoriously difficult to pass emissions on. I think in the end that was what finished them in the UK, iirc they had planned on using an injection system from GM but it wasn't financially viable.

 

They *did* - but in the UK it was only fitted to the Niva.  The same 1.7i engine as the Niva was also fitted in the Riva in Scandinavian markets, but never in the UK for some reason I've never been able to get to the bottom of.

 

The system I've used here was salvaged from a Niva.
