Porsche 924 shite purchase

Universal joint makes sense really if it's locking when it's turning. I've had a look over the whole car and it's probably the simplest car I've owned. No doubt I've got a few 'things' on the horizon.I was aware the 944 was just a wide bodied 924 with different engine. I've got the 924/944 workshop manual and structurally it looks identical. Why did you not buy the moped Torsten? I'm pleased with the car overall, no hidden nasty surprises.

** been to ebay **A decently maintained 944 Turbo (it would have to be) appears to be around the £3000 mark, whic is not a whole hill of beans in the grand scheme of things. Time for some further infestigationz!!

I'm pretty sure you'd be looking at closer to £5k for a genuinely decent Turbo unless you get one with mega miles, but I hope you can prove me wrong - Some of the parts/servicing can be quite expensive too, I think a clutch change is £700+

I think if you're willing to pay 5k for a 944, you'd better look into 911 territory (if that's your type of thing). I saw a mega-tidy one for 2,500 in a local garage (it could've just rolled out of the factory). The usually rust free galvanised body is a massive advantage.I know at some point I will get a 911, but think I've got a few "car rungs" left.

To be fair, a clutch change on a Mk1/2 Mondeo in a backstreet garage is over £600. And I know which I'd rather shell out for ;)

Was the 944 you saw a turbo? A mega tidy 944 for £2.5 at a local garage I'd expect it to be a 8v, which isnt desirable at all compared to an S2 or Turbo. If it was one of these you should have snapped it up! To get a 911 in the same sort of condition as a £5k 944 (even a Turbo) you'd need to spend £10-12k I reckon, which to me isnt all that close.I'd love a 911 too, I am pretty sure I will get one myself. Kind of a shame that I dont imagine them getting that much cheaper than they are now - the 996 can drop a bit more, but with the Boxter still 'below' it in status - which I dont think will drop below £5k for a while unless mega ropey, I dont imagine a decent 911 being a sub £8k motor for a long time if ever.

+1. Been looking at 911s on t'interweb for a colleague (yes, he's having a midlife crisis...). If you want something decent (i.e. single-figure number of previous owners, decent SH and minimal rust) then you're looking at around the £10k mark as an entry, for a post-85 Carrera 3.2 with the better G50 'box.I'd personally run a mile from a £5k 911, but then again those fiendish Wheeler Dealer boys got their hands on one for that price (or thereabouts), but it was a '76 US-spec 3.0 in doom green with a duff gearbox. Depends what you want I guess, if I needed a Porsche in my life and I had £5k to spend I'd probably go for a well-sorted 944 or maybe a 912 if I had to have "that" shape.

Aye, wouldn't pay 5k for one, the missus really likes them as well, and we'd go halves on a decent one, though that's many years off! It's the only car that I've had desires for in my entire life.

Jesus Christ, before and after!I thought the Starion was quite similar to the 924. It felt eerily identical. The Porsche handles much better though, I was quite scared by the Starion, and it had boost and lag in equal amounts. I prefer the Starion if it worked properly, I wish the 924 had the Starion performance, it would be the perfect car for me. :)
