Dunno, they were quite happy to stick their name on a Seat before they became cool.

 

And by cool I mean "desirable to estate agents".

It's not exactly a well-publicised fact, but Porsche have done a fair bit of consultancy work for VAZ over the years !

 

The collaboration began in the mid-70s, with Porsche helping out with the facelift of the 124-based Zhiguli, which eventually became the Lada Riva.

 

They also helped a fair bit with the development of the Samara (albeit only credited for engine work), as well as it's successor the 110.

 

Porsche had no formal involvement in the Samara T3 project, which was the brainchild of the French Lada importer, a lunatic called Jean Jacques Poch.

 

But I suspect they actually contributed a fair bit to it, including allowing Lada-Poch free access to the Porsche rally team's parts bin, their know-how from their involvement in the rally raid championship in the late 1980s, and even their former factory driver, a certain Jacky Ickx.
