Xantia 1.9td fuel pump.

Ok guys, I've not long been about here. I'm Davie, and I own a true shiter, a xantia 1.9td. I work delivering hot food for a chippy/pizza/kebab place. I bought said xantia in October last year with 209000 miles and a short test for next to nowt. A small weld in the rear door shut and a bottom ballpoint later and it had a new mot. Now working in a chipper, 500 miles a week, 1.9td, Bosch fuel pump, we can see where this is going. She duly started getting a diet of veg, starting 50/50, and the last 6000 miles mostly 100% with just an occasional £20 diesel when I had no veg. The plan was in the spring to start filtering waste from the shop, as he has to pay to get rid of it.

All was going well, the car is amazing, looks like a pile of shite due to xantia Dante red lacquer peel, but has recent spheres and an unmarked leather interior chucked in it and its the most comfortable thing I have ever been in. However in the last week it has started idling like a bag of bolts, and increasingly difficult to start from cold. Then I noticed the oily marks under it, up onto ramps it went and veg oil is pissing out of the area of the fuel pump. It also has a recent timing belt, which I expect is now spinning in a shower of veg oil, which it wont like. So Ive stopped using it, the more modern shite 407 is fucked also and I have had to resort to using my baby, K plate immaculate 36000 mile 205, which I really dont want to be knocking fuck out of delivering food which is hard on the car.

So come the weekend the xantia needs investigated, I have arthritis in my hands, it's about -20 degrees here, my hands don't work in this cold, so my mate is going to do the investigations and remove said fuel pump from the car. Then the fun will start, stripping the pump down and replacing the seals. What's the worst we can do? Fuck the pump completely. Well it's fucked anyway so here goes lol

Here's my fleet. The xantia fondly known as Gabby, with no lacquer on the bonnet, top of bootlid, top of front wings and the roof has been relacquered by a previous owner who is on here and all bumper corners scraped and other bruises. The 205 which is my baby and a little squint of the broken 407 hiding at the back.5cfe6f8d56bbd856e157175dc7025fd9.jpgcace9e47282494d5629822b3f18a66a9.jpg5eeb9510e563502f609521e160925db0.jpg

It's probably coming out of the pump shaft seal.. Both my BX's and an Audi 80 TDI have done this after several years of Bio Diesel use... The older seals just get turned to mush...  All my other seals were ok on all the pumps..

You have to be a bit brutal while careful not to scratch anything getting them out if you haven't got a correctly sized puller... Bit of a pain through with all the belts to replace and timing to setup again.. I think newer seals should be tougher..

That 205 looks amazing ..

It is as near new condition at 25 years old as it's possible to be.100% original paint and underseal like it was applied yesterday. I paid £600 for it 11 months ago, it is the genuine one little old lady car, with a handwritten log of every penny she spent apart from fuel. I put on the gti front and alloys but have the original series and unmarked trims and front bumper, which had the only Mark on the whole car, a scuff on the corner. It's a pity in some ways that it is an auto, but I wanted an auto so don't care. It's still worth more now than I paid, and a gti owner tried hard only last week to buy the bonnet for £250! WTF would I do without a bonnet lolol

People who shove 16V engines into 205's want the bonnet from an automatic as it's not the same as all other models.. the line is higher, giving more clearance on the inlet for the 16V. If you use a standard 205 bonnet, I think the inlet presses on the underside.

Many 205 automatics have died for their bonnets.

Curiously, despite that being an oft-repeated reason for fitting an auto bonnet, it doesn't actually help at all - standard 16v inlet manifolds easily clear the standard bonnet, and the bulge in the auto bonnet is in the wrong place for any benefit with carbs/ITBs
