K series cooling systm query + Bonus Humber content

Now my yellow Rover has been running stone cold for far too long now for comfort. So the plan was to fit the package below courtesy of rimming brothers.

 

 

However upon actually looking at the car its clear its been modified abit. The photographs show my car and a black one that has been handily abandoned about 200 yards up the road with its bonnet unlatched so its good for comparisons.

It would appear my water valve has been completely bypassed so coolant is always flowing through the matrix. Also the bypass of the matrix itself has completely gone as has the SAAB valve which is not really visible in the pictures in the black car but is still there. Both are 1.4 K series.

 

So my worry is that if I put in a new Thermostat can the cooling system cope in this simplified format. It doesn't overheat currently not even in traffic. I just don't want to swop this for OMG Kettle disaster. Thoughts

also heater hoses are opposite on one of em.. top is bottom etc

Hmmm I'm not that keen to start chiselling bits off it for free. Its in a church car park. I'm not a religious man but that might be risking a lightning bolt.

I already have (1983-4).  The interiors are pretty lush, burr walnut etc.  It's the only car (so far) that's been stolen from me.  I did get it back, within a week, but it was never the same and ended up going to scrap.

We seem to be suffering a Theological/Rootes Arrow drift here but what the hell. Maybe thats the answer to what god drives. Id take the Prototype Chrysler built with some pentastar V8. Quite fast apparently.

To be a little more helpful*, my Zetec Fester has the same kind of dilemma.   Thermostat obviously stuck open/not present and there was a little box in the spare wheel compartment containing a suspiciously new-but-lightly-used-looking heater valve.   Doesn't overheat, doesn't get warm enough to keep me warm for about 20 minutes of driving.   Its only got to live another few weeks to get me through the salt zone so I am leaving it well alone to be honest.   My thermostat housing looks a bit mullered too - another reason to be fearful.
