Ill put it in my watching, might ask on a few of the groups too - before I buy one I want to make sure they arent coded to the car or something daft!

Be careful - they aren't coded to the car but apparently you can brick the Sat Nav unit by unplugging it before it has completed its shutdown sequence.  There is no easy way to tell if you have a bricked one - other than it doesn't work when you try it obvs

About the only thing it hasnt come with... I did get two keys which is a bonus! I have never had a car with two keys!

As mentioned, the Nav is fiddly and rubbish and (depending on the disk) getting on for 20 years out of date now.  Yes you can buy discs but the whole caboodle is not worth the effort.  On a low mileage restoration car maybe, but not a leggy daily.  Best go with the Android idea.  The project thread will be brill

You can *split the harness behind the dash so that you have standard ISO (or a BMW connector on early ones) connections.  You will have to go digging for it - it's a "bypass" iso plug and socket arrangement that meant they could use one harness for highline/lowline.  Lowline cars used a more standard ISO setup and ordinary headunit instead of the BMW lash up superior engineering.

 

* by split I mean you can just unplug the bit you need and plug into the new stereo. 

 

That's the easy bit.

 

Harder bit is running an aerial extension from the boot - or fitting a different aerial.

 

Oh, and getting the steering wheel controls working on an aftermarket radio of course

Youve lost me on the split the harness bit, are you saying in the back of the NAV it has its connections, then lower down there are standard ISO if you want to use them? 

 

If I can get a 3rd party head unit in, I wont be bothered about a radio Antenna as I play everything from USB.

 

Will probs need to buy a facia off of ebay.

Sorry.  Behind the dash (actually behind the ashtray etc), there is an iso harness that runs from the dashboard to the back of the car (boot) where the BMW "head unit" actually is.  it's a plug/socket arrangement - if you find it, you can fish it out and unplug the rear unit - and just plug the iso connectors into a standard stereo.  You can get adapter plates on ebay, but the better ones are the actual MG Rover ones that were fitted to the lower line cars as they have a little shelf and are better made.

Remember the first 75 I went to see?, the seller just sent me a video of the engine running as sweet as a nut new PCV fitted and that seems to of stopped the oil being thrown everywhere.

 

It's in Hull if your interested, it was a damn fine example in terms of body and interior. 

 

I can get a price if anyones interested? and maybe the reg?

Yes, if the pcv is clogged the oil can be chucked out the dipstick tube, and the car will smoke.

The video he sent me shows it running as sweet as, hes fitted new PCV and its blob on - good result for him!

I fitted an android sat nav in our CRV, one of the generic jobbies from ebay. i think it was about £150, you can get cheaper ones but i wanted a CD option also, It's brilliant. Was a bastard to wire in as I had to splice into the original loom because it's a cheap one theres no standard wirring harness's, not even looked at getting the steering wheel controls wired up yet though, the audio chap I spoke to who helped me over the phone, at no cost, was brilliant.

Nice. I am sure i have a spare chrome surround for the door handle. Couple of the clips are broken but you can use a bit of trim tape to hold it on. Will have a look over the weekend and let you know.
