He said that the pump was a bit stiff but gave it a go to see if it would free up and avoid the expense of replacing it :(

Good news is that I managed to sell on the winter tyres that I'd bought for it - which will help when I get the bill for all this

But by the time you get it back it'll be winter again.

Which should save a load of tax...

it's a tricky one - sell as a non runner at a loss or fix it up and pay the bills. I'll probably keep it for a few months so I feel like I'm getting something for my money. the civic will be back up for sale as soon as the crv is ready, hopefully I should see a few quid back for that one.

What was your decision to go for the CRV to replace the Civic? Personally, I'd have kept the Civic as its much better to drive and nicer insides having driven both.

I was bored with the civic and fancied a change - I've had a mk1 and mk2 Crv in the past and liked them both so fancied another but in diesel flavour. I should have just gone for a cheap mk1 and suffered the fuel costs.

plus omgsnokaos !

Big news - it's finally fucking fixed !!!1!!1!1!

It was actually ready last weekend but I didn't get round to picking it up until yesterday. The invoice has been carefully folded and hidden in the document wallet, never to be looked at again. But I'm happy, it's running well and I get to enjoy having a new* car all over again. Let's hope I manage more than a hundred miles this time :)

I had the same issue about 6 years ago with my mL, invest or bin? I invested and to be fair I had another 6 years or of it without any major expenses.

Is what it is, it's done now so enjoy it and keep it safe in the knowledge it probably won't cost you much more than general servicing for the next 5 years or so.

I'm glad that I persevered with it, in several ways it isn't as nice as the civic but I do really like it.

And I've now got a local Honda specialist on speed dial :)

Glad to hear that it's now running again! Was the bill into the 4 figures?

Painful but in some ways the pain is now over and it's a runner.

If it was he will certainly be in denial with it never to be mentioned, ever!

Not a four figure bill but any big bill at this time of the year is always a pain. For the work done, I reckon I did alright.

 is that not cheap for the amount of work. As you say still a pain but i was expecting much much more.

Cambelt and water pumps on most cars can be easily far more than that. Hell, it's easy to spend double that on a clutch+DMF change on most modern diesels. Definitely a garage to have on speed dial.

very true, it could have been a lot worse. the first garage who looked at it were predicting four figure sums so this is (sort of) a result. a very nice bloke too, with a clean, tidy workshop which I see as a good sign.
