Bloom in clear lacquer

Recommended Posts

The skirts and spoiler on my car were done with rattle cans - I used good quality materials in the prep but I am getting white blotches on the lacquer.

Any ideas?

could be due it being a bit cold and damp for that sort of thing

pick the warmest day and pre warm the panels with a heat gun and warm the cans in hot water , after spraying keep the panel warm with the hot air gun and keep it dry for at least 48 hrs

They were lacquered in the summer but every so often the bloom appears.

Halfords stuff is okay I find. You can buy two pack lacquer in a can from factors - you press a button and that releases the hardener, give it a good shake and spray it on.

I found the Poundland lacquer ok and have never had any problems with bloom.

But I find using a hairdryer or a heat gun on low heat helps give it a nice shiny finish between coats and keeps out the moisture.

Also it’s in quite skinny cans which makes it easier to control the spray pattern.

Combination of damp and low temps, flat it back and get it properly dry, spray it indoors and ideally use one of those stands with the flood lamps facing it, these give a lot of heat out. Also keep the cans at room temp in the house.

Could also be the Lacquer isn't resistant to something that's coming into contact with it.

Not an easy job spraying this time of year.
