Just been looking at a few old school photos on Facebook, and inevitably got around to thinking about some of the cars that my mates at the time where driving in our A-levels and there was some proper shite amongst it considering this was '96-'97Ford Capri mk3 1.6. LS (sans rubber spoiler, alloy wheels and anything else desireable)'78 Ford Fiesta (ended up having the imprints of my feet on the bonnet after I stood on it  )Mini Convertible (nothing official about this bad boy. Press studded roof FTW. Useful for putting fast food/chip wrappers in on the way back in for lessons)Suzuki SJ (needed to get up my mates drive. Plumbed in some home stereo speakers to improve the 'ICE')G-plate Ford Granada 2.0 Ghia X (been to the moon and back)Ford Escort Mk1 (painted in army green, four-spoke RS', chopped springs and lowering blocks IIRC).Austin Metro 1.3 (ended up being replaced by the Capri above, but this was far quicker until the owner understeered in to a kerb and flattened the hydrospastic)late Renault 21 GTX (almost top-spec, best stereo but was blown after some particularly heavy White Zombie/Sepultura action)One chap in the year above also had a thoroughly raped Mk1 Golf GTi 1.6 but I'm not really sure it can be included on a list of shite, even at that time.Sadly I was late to the party when it came to driving so never had the chance to have my own at the time

You much be about the same age as me, Can't really remember what my mates had now when i was at college, Remember doing the 'laps' in a G reg Nova 1.4 SR that one of them had and racing one of the lads home that had a D reg Nova 1.0 in my B reg 1.2 Nova.Hang on, I'm starting to sound a typical Essex gary boy here

When my friends and i all started driving around 96/97, my parents had borningly new stuff. However, my friends parents' had a B-reg 1.6 Sierra L with crispy dash-top, a surprisingly quick but stinking-of-petrol G-reg Peugeot 405 Estate 1.6, a G-reg fiat Panda and G-reg Fiat Uno (both written -off spectacularly quickly)One of my friends was also lucky enough to inherit his sister's old B-reg Fiesta 1.1 in Health Visitor Blue. I couldnt push myself up in the seat when I slid forward during heavy braking (!) as the toeboards made a crunching sound every time you pressed your feet against them

I was at college in 2000\2001 and there was some interesting chod.Apart from the usual rich boy brand new euro boxes, there was a lad with a Cal look Beetle, another with a Heritage - reshelled MG Midget (restored himself in a shed)..........and then there was snotty but fit as fuck girl with a Boxster S that she was bought brand new as 18th Birthday present  I had a 5 year old Ford Ka and me best bud Mark had a 1.2 Corsa that he knackered the gearbox on because he 'couldn't be arsed changing gear'.Priceless.

I was doing my second college course around that time, I started off with a beige Rover 213SE which was written off by stupid bint three weeks later, I thought I was the coolest twat about...in a beige 213. Then after being lent a Micra K10 I bought a mk2 Rover 216 Vitesse-nice car and same performance as an Esser XR3i but without the silly insurance. Then I had a mk2 Mitsubishi Colt the a Rover SD1 Vitesse, running a 3.5i V8 on a student budget got me into a shit-load of financial debt but it was a car that I had always promised myself. They were all owned by me (apart from the Micra) within a year or two. Mates had delights as a Metro, Lada, Mk1 Fista XR2, Talbot Horizon :D:D , Mini, Maxi :D and our middle-class 'I'm a better person than you' student had a new Fista mk3 Flight.

A-levels were 94-96 for me, sixth-former fodder was mainly mk1/mk2 Fiesta, 1980s Mini, Fiat Panda, Metro, Renault 5, breadvan Polo. Jap stuff included bodykitted Micra, Subaru Justy, (bizarrely) Nissan Urvan panel van. One chap went through about five cars during the period ranging from Clubby Estate to £20 mk2 Transit  via his parents' BX 19GT which ended up heavily stuffed. More interesting metal included a '57 Beetle (which the spoiled little rich girl swiftly replaced with a wideboy Vitara), '78 Chevette (the poor bastard's father although reasonably well-off loved the things and had various dead/dying examples on the family home's front lawn  ) and a kid in the year below inherited an early turquoise Allegro which was a rare sight even back then.I had a six year old 1.1 Fiesta mk3 which unfortunately was something of a nail and had a voracious appetite for sparkplugs. having said that it remains the only car I have ever owned that was still in production at the time and as such carried a fair amount of kudos despite being painted in metallic babyshit (olympic) gold.
