1. This will only give you the year of the car if it is still the original reg. If not, it will tell you when it was last registered,

i.e. when the last change of ownership took place.

2. The URL I posted is for Ain (01). For other departements, just change the URL to the number of that departement (dep=..) and hit Enter.

So I change the URL to http://pdolz.free.fr/plaques/last.php?dep=75

In departement 75 (Paris), the year 1966 ends with 1563 TS 75 and 1967 ends with 1999 UN 75,

hence it was registered there in 1967.

I expect you to know all this by heart tomorrow morning.

Ok so I had a look but can't make much sense out of it.

The department is easy just working out the year doesn't make sense. I know it is only 2 owners and when it was first registered and when it was bought by the second owner.

Nice find Mr Junkman! That's quite interesting if you're a number plate perv who happens to spend a lot of time in France. Which I appreciate may just be me.

It's an easy way to tell whether one owner claims are true.

Also, knowledge as never been a disadvantage in general.

This is the sort of shit they should have taught in school.   I might have paid attention to something other than the French teacher's tits.

Dunno. Mërcrocaire et son premier rêve humide would certainly have managed to get my attention just as well.

Does the plate stay with the car on change of ownerships?

Posted

Dunno about that but under that system you had to re-reg when moving departement. Not sure what happens now

Nope.

Hence:

So, I had a traction avant 6797BC75 which I thought was a 1952, that list is telling me I had last years model (in 1974).

Is there any way of telling if it is still on the road as it was never re-registered in the UK and went back to France?

Posted

Would it? I think it went back to Paris so could have kept its old reg. Unless I haven't read wot U rote proper.

Between 1950 and 2009 French registered vehicles were assigned new numbers if they moved department when sold. Generally speaking if they stayed within the same department, they kept the existing plate.

In theory the DS in question may not have been originally registered as new in central Paris (75). But could have been in one of the outlying areas (92,93,94,95) around the city and then bought by someone who did live in the city centre in 1974 hence its registration number. Or it could have been originally registered in Paris when new, the moved out of the city and been given a different plate which was then changed to a 'new' Paris reg if it was sold back into 75 in 1974.

If you sold the car back to Paris from outside the department after 2009 they may have wanted to put it on a new style plate (AA-000-AA) which would stay with the car for the remainder of its life. If that makes sense?

Typically, the whole thing seems as logical and easy to follow as the average French movie.

Sadly, I have learned today what would have been extremely useful to me a dozen years ago.    Never mind, it will add a new dimension to my Norev collection and the next time I watch Rendezvous.....

With thanks to one of my French contacts on Flickr, this site is very useful as it seems to give the age regardless of whether the car has been re-registered or not: https://www.moteur-occasion.com/formulaire.php?&step=4&set_nav_mode=IMMAT&ntt_a=1503610322&ntt_ac=/n.ETQXu2QV.OwWt0gIZZ.&origine_contact=Moteur-Occasion&adwords_ann_ref=&immat=EP-784-HF&pieces[]=Moteur&Continuer= Continuer >>&amp

Case in point, this tidy little 104 which seems to have lost its original plate and has been issued with a newer, non-departement type one:

1977 Peugeot 104 GL6 (1124cc) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

PEUGEOT 104 - Boite 4 vitesses  - ESSENCE
Immatriculation : ca243rt
N° série : ............
Date de mise en circulation : 1977-08-17
Cylindrée : 1124 cm3  (8 soupapes)

Voila. On some cars it gives what I believe to be the last few digits of the chassis number.

It's a shame the new-style black plates don't use the same font as the old ones.
