It turns out that there are companies out there that will sell you conversion kits. They aren't cheap but not tends of thousands. Here's a 2CV one that starts at £4,000

The same sight has kits for the Peugeot 107 / Citroen C1 / Toyota Ago, Classic Beetle and , of all things, the Daihatsu Hijet (and ride on mowers!)

That site has been showing those prices for years. I can't believe it's still be that expensive. I reckon you could build a li-ion 2CV for under six grand. Which I had six grand to try and prove it! Lead acid, the four grand kit, just isn't worth bothering with.

The thing EV-west never mention about their conversions is the thing that's always been the biggest drawback of any electric car: range.

The electric Beetle had a genuine range of 100 miles. They've built another with Tesla batteries now, which should go double that. My 2CV only does 200 miles on a charge, and I can't refuel it at home.
