Rover 620si - Clutch

Right then

First issue with new Rover!

Clutch bite is on the floor just about.

Wheel spin is too easy - cant pull away without spinning so guessing clutch isnt fully releasing. Changing gear seems fine, all brake fluids topped up reservoirs are full. Slight weep on slave cylinder. Havent checked master which i presume is at the top of the pedals.

Possible new slave cylinder ?

Ive tried bleeding two ways - open bleed nipple, pedal on the floor do nipple back up and pump peddle. Have done this twice. lost a bit of fluid and made sure reservoir is full., also nipple open, worked slave cylinder piston held piston closed and closed nipple.

Any ideas ?

Thanks folks.

Yeah that looks goosed - if fluid is getting out then air is getting in. Shouldn't be too bad to replace? I find priming these before fitting like you'd do with a concentric bearing helps too

Ive never done one! I'll presume ebay or ECP will be my best bet for a replacement. Im presuming also that, that with the plunger is the Slave Cylinder.? Bare in mind there is only a weep not a leak?

Found one at ECP. will have to wait for now though!

Dont suppose anyone has one kicking around ??

Yeah the slave that's right, even a little weep is bad news which will just get worse and worse. Not sure what ecp want for them but it shouldn't be bad with the offer codes they put out 52 weeks a year.

Decent spanner might be needed for the fluid feed pipe if it's a hard line too, don't want to round it

Yep got part code from ECP, found the same one on ebay half the price lol.

Decent spanner, check... I presme its undo the two nuts, Undo the fluid pipe and block it off to stop fluid loss, then theres like a ball joint on left which i assume just pulls out. new one on, ball joint in, do fluid pipe back up bolts in open bleeder pedal down until fluid flows .... job done ?

Sorry typing one handed!

Yeah thats pretty much it really but prime the new slave cylinder with fluid first that way you've not got a boat load of air to rid yourself of. Will probably need a manual bleed for a bit after but should be fine, or use a pressure bleeder on it. If it's got a flexi hose between the slave and master cylinder then clamp it to save a lot of fluid loss.

Hopefully you'll get a decent pedal (if it's not the clutch itself but fingers crossed it's not)

Best of luck!

I dont think it is clutch. shouldn't be anyway: not at 60k miles lol.

Hopefully not anyway. Doesnt feel like a knackered clutch when It's working - if you know what I mean.

Its looking like, IF I can do it myself, to do clutch, cam belt and water pump will cost me less than £200 quid.

Though havent done a belt in a long time and no doubt it needs one.
