Mazda 3 suspension

Morning all ,

Our Mazda 3 has had the lower suspension bushes as an advisory for the past couple of years. As time goes by these are only likely to perish further . How would be replacements for both sides? My local garage said they usually replace the entire arm .

A quick Google suggests the bushes on the lower arm are part of the assembly. Changing the whole lower arm will be cheaper and quicker in labour which is going to be the major cost. Getting old bushes out and new ones back in can be a right nightmare - especially compared to just swapping the part.

Yeah you could swap the arms over in like half an hour while burning the old bushes out is likely a good 2 hours Labour because it's a dirty smelly job.

Much cheaper to swap the arms, unless you are fitting polybushes there's absolutely no point changing just the bushes.

Get Lemforder or Delphi arms, last a lot longer.

I did this on our 2008 Mazda 3, the bushes weren't even available separately but may be now. It was a straightforward job to swap the arms over but as always it's worth a good soak with plusgas the day before. There was one tricky bit on one side but I can't remember what it was for the life of me.

How much should I be looking at to have these replaced ? I shall not tackle this one myself as time is limited. It's a MK1 2007 model. Is it worth bothering with the likes of F1 autocentres or going independent. I'm Leicester based.

They are an absolute bastard to press into the arms so good shout on having someone else do it. I think they technically need new bolts after they are removed from the car too.

I'd expect a good couple hundred in parts and labour, this is a bit of a piss about of a job. Don't take this as gospel. I don't use garages as I don't trust anyone to work on my car but me so I'm notoriously bad at estimating costs for this sort of thing. I'd definitely use an indy for this too.

+1 and I do almost everything myself and have a small hand press at work. A real shit of a job. They used to do complete arms for about a tenner more than the bushes but couldn’t get them when I did the wife’s 3.

Easier (and so cheaper) to change the whole arm. Also means a fresh balljoint is being fitted at the same time. Add in the price of a wheel alignment too; £40 tops I should think.
