Diagnosticing modernz - Ford ABS

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any experience in the above, it's a 2004 Mondeo Mk3 and it keeps throwing the ABS and traction control lights on.

I really, really hate paying garages £70 to plug a gadget in and tell me the codes so is anyone aware of a device that will read ABS codes?

I keep reading about a piece of software called 'F Super' which supposedly does it but there are mixed reviews...it's only £15 on eBay including the lead though so I might give it a go

Download Forscan and buy a USB ELM327 lead. Ideally one with the switch mod on it. Search eBay for Forscan.

Downloaded the software and ordered the lead....should be here on Thursday - rest of the day reserved for reading the forscan forum..

Expect update around lunchtime with fully diagnosed fault/completely borked car.

Much obliged.

Verdict is - forscan rocks, lead turned up today and it works perfectly, read codes from all modules and it is C1234 - right front wheel sensor disagrees with the other 3

Many thanks for the recommendation. This place..

I was going to comment 'bet it's a wheel sensor'

its worth joining the forscan forum, there you can obtain a temporary licence key to enable key programming should you need it,beware of coding egr/fuel pumps etc anything until your fully up on how it works though.

I'm gonna go with sensor for now because to change the pickup ring means changing the front wheel bearing. Start with easiest first and all that.

It only ever happens when the car has been driven for a while so I'm thinking it's the sensor getting hot and breaking down, if it was the pickup ring I'd have thought it would happen all the time.

£8 for an eBay special or £108 for a Genuine Ford....im gonna give the eBay special a go. They're easy enough to change if it doesn't work out.

Sometimes removing the sensor and cleaning everything up will offer a fix, corrosion can push them out of kilter or they just make their own way for the lolz. Last thing I plugged into a car for diagnosing was a paperclip and count the flashes from a dash lamp, where's my software download?
