Plate now buffed to within an inch of its life.

have to put up with these days.

Nice that it's 3 and 3. An extra number would've looked a bit odd.

All but one of the Lambrettas I've owned have been 5 or 6 digit plates - I think the dealers must have had their pick of available registration marks, as a 7 digit plate doesn't fit the frame?

Motor now cleaned up ready to go back in - just need to switch the carburettor.

Dived into the big box of new bits from Scootopia, and got a few more pieces fitted. Hopefully be getting the motor back in and cabled up over the weekend.

Got my polishing head on this afternoon, and smartened up the brake and clutch levers. They were a bit of a mess with lots of oxidisation, but cleaned up pretty well.

Finally got my act together and stuck the motor in this evening.

Looking good Mr 4 W Stool. Looking gooood ! Can't wait to see it, him/her/LBGTQP+, finished, although

enjoying the build. A lot!

Cables now roughly in position, I've ordered new trunnions for the gear + clutch cables, and new brake cable clamp/adjusters. I'll finalise the position of the cables once they're all buttoned up and adjusted.

The wiring is pretty much sorted, I just need to tidy up the routing above the rear mudguard once the regulator has been mounted.

Cables now done up and sorted, wiring wired, and lights lit.

Lammy is looking good. Re. seven digit number plates- I've seen period photos of some in the late sixties with two lines of three digits and a third line with a single digit. My old DL125 was BHY314H, but that was a 3x4 digit rectangular plate and was a more recent Italian import. There was a slight overhang either side of the rear frame, but nothing much. The digits must have been slightly smaller than standard I guess.

On a different note, where did you source your 6x6 plate from? I'll need something smart for my s2 when ive eventually sorted registration paperwork.

I bought that plate in 1989 - the shop closed 10 years later. I was given details of a place that makes them exactly the same in the Liverpool area I think (£28 iirc) I'll have a look and get back to you. :)

I decided to go with a standard 22mm carburettor in the end, I can always fit the 30mn one if I get bored of it.

Got it running earlier. I need to adjust the carburettor once the motor has  fully warmed through, but after 10 minutes or so of running, it seemed to be pretty happy.

A short ride up and down the street revealed that the headstock bearings had settled, and needed nipping up a touch. This was done, then the handlebar top finally went back on.

Should be getting the bodywork back on tomorrow, complicated by the painter having filled in two of the holes for the floor runners. Not sure if they've been welded up or just filled, but either way I'm gonna be drilling into fresh paint. :(

Didn't get nearly as much done as I was hoping, but it looks a bit more complete now.

Ooh is that a cafe scooter. I can remember back in the day, a Thursday I believe, quite a few owners would strip 

everything possible and blat around on an absolute skeleton.

In a way hiding the engine ,et al, seems a bit of a shame coz it looks spot on. Are you going to show it ? 

ride it ? stand and stare at it ? As I would. My drool would kill the paintwork though.

I'm going to ride it chief, probably not very much due to too many vehicles, but its been built to ride. I've never seen the point of the show pony, but I might do one one day when my "to do" list is shorter. (not for the foreseeable! :( )

Horn casting and mudguard now in position - just need to spend a bit more time getting the rubber gaskets sitting nicely before tightening everything down.

Just lower beading clamps, bridge piece, brake pedal and legshield badge to go on (and side panels! ) and I'm waiting for the seat to be re-covered, then it's back to the mk2 Cav. :)

Not a whole lot left to do now. Before it's maiden voyage I'll be smearing a little araldite on the exposed threads of the bodywork fasteners. This prevents stuff from being jettisoned due to vibration. When you need to undo the fasteners at some point, the glue just flakes away. :)

In my early days (mid to late teens) I worked at a factory during the school hols to earn enough to buy an Li 150 for the sum of £25 cash.  It would run so much better without the air filter assembly although the air intake was protected from ingesting flies and other detritus by my then girlfriend's old tights.

 

The Licensing Authority saved its single and double digit numbers (in those days) for motor cycles and scooters so that the registration would fit on the smaller plates without having to go to a third line.  Par example:

Much faffing was performed to get the side panels to fit nicely - they must have been leaned on quite heavily during rubbing down for paint preparation.

I've had to order a new coil too - the one I had couldn't be mounted the same way as it was before due to damage at the mounting point. The only way I could fit it with the damaged mounts left it fouling the side panel. New coil is blue though, so not a bad thing!  :)

Purists can get in the proverbial. I'd be braggin it was a bitsa, if I had a machine as good looking.

Almost a year on, and I've still not got a seat sorted for this. I really need some time off work to get stuff like this sorted - hopefully I'll be getting a couple of weeks off in April. I might get to actually ride the thing this year!  :)
