Angrydicky Posted June 19, 2018 Author Posted June 19, 2018 Engine crane, A-frame and vehicle tilter - details on my fire sale post.
BorniteIdentity Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 Well, I hoped to bring a happy ending to this rather sorry tale. A plan was hatched 6 weeks ago for me to buy this from Copart as I A)wanted a Mini 2) live near Sandy and D) am a bit of a misty eyed romantic who wanted to see Dicky’s friend reunited with the car; even if it was just occasionally. Sadly Wingz, who was bidding on my behalf as I don’t have an account, ended up in a meeting at the live auction time. I also realised I had more money to play with than first thought, as the fees are a sliding scale not a fixed %. Sadly, it was too late to get in touch with Wingz and it all went to fucking shit. We lost it for £50. Hammer went down at £1450. I understand that there are worse things going on but, tbh, I really wanted to make this happen. I’ve had precisely no car luck in 7 months and it’s getting to the stage of just sacking it all off and getting a proper hobby. Bollocks. Sorry Dicky. Sorry y’all.
sierraman Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 Don’t give up it all happens for a reason. Something mad like Mk1 Mondeo will crop up in no time.
timolloyd Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 You set a very high bar for yourself, with rare mk1 Mondeos from flaky sellers and stolen/recovered Minis going through Copart. These are much harder purchases to pin down than the little-old-lady tip off from which so many barn finds* emerge. Keep at it!
Burnside Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 You gave it your best shot, just sometimes things conspire against us. Don't lose the faith in chod, it will come right one way or another.
Angrydicky Posted August 13, 2018 Author Posted August 13, 2018 Dan, you gave it a great shot and thank you for trying. I've been here many times before with old cars so I know exactly how you feel - it's so hard when you set your heart on something and it gets pulled out from under you. I know it's got an interesting back story and would have made a great thread, but when all's said and done, it's only a Mini and there's millions of them left, it's not like it's something rare that if you missed it you may have to wait years for another one to come up for sale again. My Vauxhall Royale has been plagued with faults for the last 12 months and currently has the engine in pieces. Did I feel like jacking it in? Sometimes, especially as the previous owner has been pestering me to sell it back to him. But, I'd wanted one of these big Vauxhalls for years and this one is in a great colour scheme and has a cool numberplate (and isn't too rusty). The other thing is that it's embarrassing selling a car for spares or repair. So I've persevered with it, and at last I think I'm making progress. All the best, Richard BorniteIdentity, JohnK, Datsuncog and 1 other 4
