Junkman Posted May 23, 2017 Author Posted May 23, 2017 I agree jm, a nice deep blue with oodles of lacquer! Yeah, so it can peel a lot. Repainting this car and then adding coach stripes would be like running ½ mile of a marathon and then stopping to drink a nice stiff Martini. EFA
danthecapriman Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Mustard mit, I like the coach line stripes. These were added at some point by a previous owner when the car had a lower half respray. The coach lines hide the joint between new and old paint. Sadly whoever did it didn't bother doing it properly and masked (poorly) around the plastic side trims so these all have paint around them too. They also used masking tape to cover two rust holes in the front panel behind the bumper then just sprayed over this too! I welded these bits up when I had the car. Junkmans right. These cars are superb and don't need 'upgrading', Ford did a good job with these Granny's, they're easily a cut above the usual stuff Ford were churning out alongside these. The colour on this one is lovely. I seem to remember Mineral Blue wasn't available for long though, I think it was 85 - 87 model years only, so not many mk2 Granny's would have had it.

danthecapriman Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 A Ghia without coach stripes is incomplete and looks like a bloody L.Indeed. One must show everyone else that one has a Ghia. Not just a Ghia in fact but a Ghia X! Magnificent Rustbucket, Junkman and chodweaver 3
Junkman Posted May 23, 2017 Author Posted May 23, 2017 I like how one shows off that one has a Ghia X with a big fat chrome plated 'X' tacked to the tailgate.Granadas sure score high in the most half arsed badging contest, which is of course won by the P6 V8 with not a narrow margin. On a different note, here are some photos of my more recent Granada killing spree. 2.8i Ghia, Mineral Blue in colour 2.8i Injection Turnier pulling 2.8i Ghia Turnier resto2.8i Ghia Turnier resto finished Pre collection thread invention collection: I had a Nimbus Grey 2.8i Ghia X saloon So I bought another Nimbus Grey 2.8i Ghia X saloon just because it was a Nimbus Grey 2.8i Ghia X saloonfor sale within 5 miles of Ringwood. dome, stormee, Conrad D. Junkman Posted May 23, 2017 Author Posted May 23, 2017 After I washed it, there was a substantial amount of water in the driver's footwell, so we have to figure out how that's getting in. By washing it. Ghosty 1
Magnificent Rustbucket Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Self fixing electrics and wet footwells - this thing is just like a Jag. No wonder I like it! danthecapriman, Junkman and richardthestag 3

Felly Magic Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 The first ever Mills spec car I drove was a 2.8i Ghia X with peeled cow interior, and that metallic greeny silver coulour Ford did, it was a lovely cruiser, but was getting on in years by then and was turning brown in lots of places, and being a Granada, half the electrics didn't work, still a nice car though danthecapriman, Magnificent Rustbucket and Junkman 3
Junkman Posted May 23, 2017 Author Posted May 23, 2017 Is it only me, or do these look better in dark colours? Ghosty 1
Magnificent Rustbucket Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 My favourite is crystal green metallic with brown velour. danthecapriman 1
danthecapriman Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Is it only me, or do these look better in dark colours?Yes!I like them all regardless of spec or colour. But, yes, darker colours make them look really good. I think the dark paint with the chrome shiny bits is what does it. Black ones look superb imho. Fingers crossed this end for your MOT tomorrow. I'm sure it'll be fine, it never had much trouble the whole time I had it. The worst was the headlight it once failed on. Very easy fix but it was just time trying to find a new one. Junkman 1
danthecapriman Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 My favourite is crystal green metallic with brown velour.I like blue cars anyway so I'm sticking with blue paint, and I love the blue velour interiors.
Junkman Posted May 23, 2017 Author Posted May 23, 2017 Entirely btw, all the people who know me from yore have somehow been informed that I have another one.So there is currently a lot of LTAOing, itoldyousoing, iknewiting, wasabouttimeing, idontbelieveiting andsowhencapriceing going on. Will I ever hear the end of it? Magnificent Rustbucket 1
danthecapriman Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Funny how things get spread.Who cares. You clearly like these cars so what's the problem getting another? To have so many of them over the years and still like them must say something. I must say though, I'm surprised your selling your P6('s). I thought it'd be them and this. Magnificent Rustbucket and Junkman 2
Magnificent Rustbucket Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 People do get associated with certain cars - I am with my Jag by people who have known me for a long time. One even jokes it will one day be my funeral pyre, like a Viking, though it is unlikely to float well. I guess it isn't surprising, given I have had it since the end of the last century and it was my dads when they first met me, way back in university. When I was weighing up whether I should repair its galloping rot a year or two back, there was quite a strong reaction amongst them to the possibility it could be scrapped. chodweaver and Junkman 2
trigger Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Now I've sold my P6 I'm after a Granada, i prefer the looks of the pre facelift Mk2. My favourite is crystal green metallic with brown velour. There's a Crystal green one on ebay I've been talking to the owner about, he'll take £3000 but it's up in Blackburn so hardly local but look at that interior Dick Cheeseburger, Shep Shepherd, Felly Magic and 11 others 14
Magnificent Rustbucket Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 I saw that too! I prefer the facelifted ones, for old time's sake (my dad had one in the early '80s).
Junkman Posted May 23, 2017 Author Posted May 23, 2017 I must say though, I'm surprised your selling your P6('s). I thought it'd be them and this. Junkman Posted May 24, 2017 Author Posted May 24, 2017 In a minute I'm going to chuck my bike in the back and take it to a garage for exhaust, towbar removal and MOTing tomorrow. Has it passed yet, has it passed yet??? dome, richardthestag, danthecapriman and 1 other 4

Conrad D. Conelrad Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Turns out it's a garage full of Granada fans. They've all owned them at some point. Much admiration. Exhaust replacement turned out to be a massive pain. I'd bought the correct pipe, but the diameter was a millimetre larger than the centre box outlet allow for, so it had to be heated and stretched. Of course, removing the remains of the old pipes was also an ordeal, but that's why I took it to a garage! Both those downpipes were very much on their last legs, so even if it hadn't been clouted on a rock a couple of weeks ago, it would have failed sooner rather than later. The towbar removal was difficult too, every bolt was a challenge. But it's off now, and the car's looking cleaner and is whisper quiet! Skizzer, trigger, Junkman and 6 others 9
danthecapriman Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Splendid news indeed. I told you its a good 'un!The towbar was shit though so I'm glad you've decided to ditch it. Something I'll be doing on my Volvo once im finished towing my Capri around with it. I hate towbars on cars, vans and 4x4's fine but they ruin the looks of cars imho. More pics please, I'd like to see it without the towbar... Junkman and trigger 2

Junkman Posted May 24, 2017 Author Posted May 24, 2017 It's a bloody good car, no doubt. You did a splendid job so far and I can't thank you enough for providing me with a resto base I can work with. I know I'm repeating myself, but I feel like someone must feel when he is released from prison. danthecapriman 1
