Van insulation

I've just replaced my old 55 plate Ducato with a lwb high roof 09 one which is as bare as a babies bum inside .

It's primarily for traveling with my bike and friends bikes but I may have to sleep in it every now and again .

Before I ply line it what insulation would you guys recommend to stop me getting wet in the night . Not too worried about the cold , I like a cold bedroom and would have a decent sleeping bag .

Was looking at the air tec foiled stuff but wondered what you guys have used ?

Definitely avoid anything soft/absorbent!

 

TBH, just ply lining it all (including the roof) will be enough to stop any drips unless there's half a dozen of you in there - the wood will keep the damp air off the cold metal.

I've converted load of vans in my old job and we always used bubbly foil insulation stuck on with spray glue. I had no confidence in it and the bloke I worked with put it in just because it was the cheapest way he could say "fully insulated" in the advert, but I used the same stuff in my loft and actually it's fantastic stuff.

 

From personal experience with my own camper, I used "megavanmats" self adhesive acoustic/thermal closed cell foam insulation, about 10mm thick.

It's absolutely no good for sound deadening even when applied 5 layers thick, but it seems to do a good job keeping the heat in/out.

Mine was ply lined then lots of holes drilled and injected with expanding foam. No rattles, good insulation and no damp.

 

Job'd.

 

Though it should be considered permanent!

I used to use a refrigerated van, it had stuff a bit similar to Rockwall inside the cavities. As people said it got wet then rotted the carcass of the van from the inside out. I'd probably use some polystyrene insulation if anything.
