Flippin' eck. Still, at least it is a nice day. Thought I'd take the old girl out for a spin, and it treated me to a flat battery. No prob, forgot to disconnect the battery, haven't used it for about 2 weeks, so that's to be expected for these 6.0 lumps. Jumped off Merc, warmed up and up the ramps into the so spin

Glorious cruise, sounds and feels perfect but a cursory glance at the dials showed temp unusually high, and climbing. Central London, so traffic lights, stop start, each burst of movement stopped the increase, and just made it into Kennington Tesco before striking red zone. Lift bonnet, nothing unusual - no gurgling, steam, hissing, just the usual heat from a V12. Fan cutting in. Hmm. Water level OK. No leaking. Stop to cool. Start again, temp shoots straight up again.

Green Flag on their way.

Just had new waterpump. I'll be annoyed if it is a faulty temp switch!!! Not risking it though. HGF on these not recommended.

Still, at least it is a nice day.

Much leakage. Faulty water level switch. Poor old dear was dry as a bone! Off to Surrey Jag for a fix.

Nice walk home then.

No-one open to take the car, so home is the only option. Quick check on axle weights. Just over a tonne up front, so...

Into neutral.

Home. Drives fine down to car park where I see the HUGE puddle... bugger, how did I miss that when I started off earlier!?!

Anyway, nothing cooked, will top up with fluids, take plenty with me and risk a 05:00 drive down to Croydon tomorrow. Or bottle it and get it trailered. Just a leaky pipe (possibly badly fitted water-pump. Needs to be tackled from below - not the most accessible engine...

I still love it though. Will forgive it just about anything.

Glad to read of a fellow Surrey Jag customer. Best thing I ever did was take mine there.

Oh, that's annoying. Still, at least you noticed it before there was a problem. If you are going to have it towed a long way, my Jag's handbook states you need to have them disconnect the prop shaft before the car is towed. My XJ40's handbook reckons towing the car up to 30 miles is safe without disconnecting it, but only if you put in an extra 1.7 litres (3 pints) of transmission fluid. My car has the ZF4HP22 though - yours may well be different with the GM transmission. It will say what you need to do in the handbook.

I have never had a car towed, so it may be I am being excessively cautious of course. I'm sure a fair number of Shiters know whether it is actually necessary.

It is a lovely looking car - and so much engine! I have a Jag with much smaller lungs.

The other option for long distance towing is put the back on the dolly & leave the front on the ground.

it is a beauty & I'd forgive it anything too.

It really is a nice looking thing that. Worth the effort/money you put into it.

Cheers for the comments - providing no more hiccups of that magnitude, it will be wafting on up to the Bubblecar Museum later this year.
