Radio upgrades / retro bollocks

I'm sure there is a thread here somewhere for this - by all means just point me towards it, but I really fancy getting DAB and Ipod into the Jag (XJ40) without an inappropriate looking flashy set clashing with the cracked walnut veneer.

The Blaupunkt europa is as close as I can find with quick searches. Is there a company that takes the body and face of a std fit unit (Din-thingy) and fills it with new stuff?

I'd quite like to giggle along to Vaughan and Woods; and nod grumpily to Hawksby and Jacobs like I can in the daily.

I wonder if there is an adaptor that'd fit into the CD changer socket? Can't be that difficult to receive DAB and pipe it out pretending to be a CD player surely?

If you don't get the fancy adaptor plate to make a new radio have the ski jump shape around the outside they sit quite deep & aren't as noticeable as you'd think.

Connects 2 and Yatour are the two names I know of for fake CD changers.

I didn't know they existed! Damnit, another great idea of mine stolen before I thought of it.

The Blaupunkt Barcelona is the stereo to have as its software is iPod and iPhone compatible and the Bluetooth and hands free is superb the only thing it doesn't do is make the tea plus if you buy it through eBay Germany it can be had for around 60 quid

Also it really looks good in an old car as it isn't lit up like an 80s disco, I liked the first one so much that I bought another for my winter car. And the sound quality is fantastic.

Just had a look on ebay, and I can't find any reference to this stereo being DAB Vince? Also not at the sixty quid price either, have you got a link at all?

Cheers, looks a good stereo all round however :-D

That's because Vince70 is talking out of his hole :D The upside down picture is of a Blaupunkt BRISBANE 230 which is a mechless head unit (no CD) therefore cheap - £95 here and whatever it is in Germany. It's not DAB either, but I'd go without DAB and just pump internet radio into it from a mobile phone. (The Barcelona 230 is the same but has a CD)

BRISBANE 230 BT

Both the Brisbane and Barcelona are FM only, so no BBC 5 Live or other snap, crackle and pop.

The DAB/DAB+ FM/MW/LW version of the same style is either the Dortmund 230 DAB or the Stockholm 230 DAB, the Dormund having some "Android music player App" over the Stockholm version.

That looks like the horror I installed in the Discovery. It is shit, there is no reception on FM and it won't talk to either of our phones.

I have a Pure highway of some description, it does DAB and handsfree and all that, while still having a CD player. I think it was about £90. Out of the box it is a bit flashy and obnoxious, but you can fiddle with settings to have it nice and sedate in any colour lighting you want. I also have a second identical one that I got from a scrappy for £20. That'll probably go in the pug.

Yes sorry my 230 is a Brisbane model rather than 230 Barcelona as I didn't need the CD slot plus on my car it doesn't have the depth for a standard stereo which is needed with the CD player and use my iPhone as the radio although that's very rare as I prefer to use my ancient nano direct or very occasionally FM rather than going all wireless so mainly only go wireless when I answer the phone on it but it's crystal clear incoming and outgoing apparently when I'm talking on it.

Mine cost just under £60 with delivery as I waited for the euro to plummet and back when I bought mine in 2015 it was around €1.40 to the pound and I have 2 of them now in my cars.

But with the current exchange rate it would be about £70

Shame the stereo needs Bluetooth or Apple compatible as a base model Melbourne can be had for under £40 delivered at the moment and looks good value from uk sellers.
