Check the low pressure pump in the tank is feeding sufficient fuel volume under load to the HP pump at the business end?

Fairly common issue. Oh yes, check the fuel filter too...

By the way, if this cures it, do I get dibs on the plastic snail as a reward?? ;-) ;-)

More info needed.

If you can get the live data, when it doesn't run, see if there is an engine speed reading.

Also check the fuel rail pressure in the data, somewhere 400 bar is required.

Check under the bonnet for a manual primer bulb, if it has one then there is no in tank pump.

Also I seem to recall the cam sprockets can move which means they can seem to time up ok but still be wrong.

You wouldn't get it started at all if this were the case though.

I blame this thread. As usual I couldn't wait to hear how much and was afraid there'd be a bidding war, so in the spirit of instant gratification I have gone out and bought one.

Excellent news, I hope it is from very far away so we can have a collection thread which uses the camping facility you have just agreed to buy :)
