Junkman's Irish Climate Improvement Mission A Full Success! - Caution: P6 Series 1 V8 Porn!

Today I took a more southeasterly route via Athy - Irish Baile Ãtha Ã, meaning "town of the ford of Ae" - (I didn't meet Ae, nor did I see his Ford)
and a place called Vicarstown - historically known as Ballynevicar, Ballyvicar and Ballyvicary, Irish Baile an Bhiocáire,
meaning "town of the vicar" - which apparently is neither a town, nor has a vicar.
For the record, it is not the Vicarstown from Thomas The Tank Engine, because it's not on the Eastern side of Sodor and has no railway connection.

This place advertised its fine food very well up and down the road, the many signs leading to it really made me hungry:

Sadly no dinner was served.

I spare you pictures of Athy, since you would drown yourselves in a barrel of Gin after you went to fetch an olive several times.

But this is the road from Athy to Vicarstown:

And yes, I despise littering as much as the next man, but this is taking things too far:

CCTV in operation? In the middle of nowhere?

Looking at the places I would think there are other priorities for the budget.

Speaking of which, there seems to be endless money available for traffic calming,

which is thrown into ones path everywhere.

But I have yet to see any traffic that could possibly be calmed.

One day you will find somewhere open, and you will probably need a paramedic to help deal with the shock LOL

Besides, I'm quite grateful for everything being either closed or derelict.

Whenever something is coincidentally open, I regularly get a heart attack when I see the prices.

How can anyone possibly afford living here?

Today a circus from England set up tent.

The English do the same thing to American trucks as they do to American cars.

Today I took yet a different route home, this time carefully avoiding any half derelict towns.

The real countryside must be better, right?

Well.

However, it can get worse. A lot worse:

I completely forgot to introduce you to my buddy Spikey.

Junkdaughter #2 made it for me so that I'm not so lonely on my Climate Improvement Mission®.

As you can see, Spikey likes big bloody V8s and old Rovers as much as the next man.

The Climate definitely took a turn for the better since I started Greenhouse Gassing© Ireland.

So I took another trip to the depopulated outback today.

A forest had to be traversed.

I kind of expected a T Rex going after me.

I wanted to buy a cow, but the cow shop was closed, of course.

So I decided to have beer at Hogan's Cedar Bar.

But guess what...

When I arrived at the GGG's Westernmost manned outpost, some arrogant git had the audacity to park in my space.

Some people. I seriously considered keying it a bit.

No, that's just some random litter.

Sadly littering is one of the most popular pastimes in Ireland.

That and being closed for business.

Some excellent views, excellent photos and an excellent car. Please keep these updates coming JM.

If you get the opportunity, I would recommend a trip over to the western counties as there are some amazing sights to be seen and very unusual roads to drive along near to the coast, especially in Mayo (although it is quite a trek to get there.)

I've been to the West of Ireland and I can attest that it's beautiful, as in beautiful.

I was to the most Southwestern area, Kerry. I was to the North West, all the way to Ballyhillin.

It's mindboggingly nice.

Today I was told at work that if the weather is really, really good in May, the Summer will be shit in Ireland.

I said worry not, good old Junkman from the GGG® will continue to improve© The Climate for you.

However, today was my final excursion with Rover Blue. Tomorrow Spikey and I will be driving it back to Blighty.

Saturday it will be dropped off at the legendary Rover P6 Sanatorium at Lake View, so its former and future

owner can take possession at his convenience.

Yes, my friends and coppersmiths, my foray with this car is coming to an end.

Please enjoy the last proper excursion with it with me.

Was that awesome roadside fuelling station still operational?

I mean, it was presumably closed, but in theory operational.

"Operational" is a term that harshly conflicts with what I've seen in Ireland.

But yes, you can buy petrol and diesel at Hanlon's.

So yes, they gave me an extension until end of June.

Next Tuesday, I'll have an interview for a proper job.

I hope I'll get it.

However, I'll lie. I'm going to tell them I can't start until September.

I have no inclination whatsoever to work this Summer.

I shall return to the Emerald Island the week from 5th June, proudly improving the Irish climate with the Beastestate.
