On Tuesday, my girlfriend and I visited Longleat to do the Safari and see all the lions and tigers etc. We were lamenting the large numbers of pointless BMW X5 and Volvo etc "Off roaders" muscling their way onto the grass at the deer feeding area so that their 2.4 children could lean out the window to feed the deer.

But then I saw this superbly shitey Mitsubishi Delica L300 Star Wagon 4WD, in a safari browny greeny colour with stowed towropes and other "scene" accessories, like quad spotlights on the roof. "Now that's cool!", I said. I half expected my girlfriend to say it was shit, knowing what her opinion is on 80s retro boxes like my Citroen BX.

But no, to my surprise she said "Yeah ... You can have one of those. It looks like fun."

Yeah I've been caught out like that before. My ex-wife even FOUND me a Scirocco Storm in the classified ads at her work, and then went with me to buy it, sat next to me on the test drive and everything.Got it home and she started whinging about how brown it was, how impractical it was and unsuitable for a family (they only have lap belts in the back - no matter - I was going to drive it too fast to want kids in the back anyway!). Fumed when it broke down - once - at a total cost of £6 to repair. Then got angry when it took 3 weeks to sell and lost £25 in total over the course of ownership. She also liked the idea of a £250 Audi 90. Didn't like it needing refuelling at every petrol station we passed. Get it in writing, trust me! Women by design change their mind every 16.3 seconds.

Actually my wife hold NO shite cars as being suitable transportation for me and / or the kids / asnd or her on a Wednesday night when she goes out to Rosmary Connoly and my car happens to be at the end of the drive.Though she doesnt mind the Micra. Just too new to be shite.

What is this, the Autoshite "under the thumb" division? Just buy a knackered old ambulance and leave it on the driveway, she'll live.

Last time I bought a BX without telling her I ended up sleeping in the caravan for a few nights - i dont own a caravan anymore, so next time its the wendy house :(

Pah.Its part of what makes you what you are- & therefore attractive to them.Keep em keen by buying it-you know she'll come round (eventually).

My missus was absoloutely cool with my bringing home shitey old cars... she even drove them herself.I thought i was sorted, but then she announced she was buggering off for no apparent reason, and I realised then that maybe she didnt seem to mind the shitey cars, but inside was hating them (and me!)d'oh!

I've been having to persuade my other half it really isn't a good idea to buy another old crock while I am busy repairing her existing one
