2001 Hyundai Amica borked ECU

Hi GANG!!

I've picked up this Amica from a relative as a non runner. The garage have sent the ECU off for testing and recon it's knackered. I was just going

To bridge it but seeing as it's fairly tidy and has some MOT I may try and repair it. If I get a used ECU from a similar model will it fix things or do I need the whole shebang of key reader, instrument cluster etc. I've no idea if there's an immobiliser or not.

Any ideas on this petite shitter?

There more than likely will be an immobiliser, so just boshing a 2nd hand ecu on won't work.

On that age of ecu someone is bound to have cracked the immo so it'll be possible to turn it off one way or another

Thanks for that, it looks different unfortunately

I've had ECU's fixed before, Merc ones made of unobtanium, new ones about £1500 at the time, plus i have the red/green lights in the drivers door/boot which tell you if its (un)locked, these type aren't simple swap jobs for a used unit.

What i found was that there are ECU repairers who are decent and know there job (at a price), and some utterly useless twats and con men masquerading as the former.

My second ECU fix i was trying to be a clever cunt and find cheaper fixers, after sending it to two places, the second of which who tried to tell me it was scrap so to save me return postage this saint would bin it, yeah right, and paying two wasted diagnostics fees, i still ended up sending it to the previous man who can who fixed it no trouble and it's still running the car fine about6 or 7 years later, lesson learned don't try to be a clever cheap cunt.

Maybe the existing one is repairable anyway.

Yeah there's a lot of chancers in the business. I repair truck/bus stuff and some of the stuff that comes through the door after being "repaired" elsewhere is laughably bad.

ECUtesting and Bluestreak seem reputable. We send a bit of work Bluestreaks way.

Both of mine ended up going to the Isle of Wight (the name of the company escapes me, carelect.demon being part of their email, but seem to recall them being something to do with ECU testing), and my MB indy seems impressed by BBA Reman discovered by him after my two episodes, and i assure you my MB indy is far from an easy man to impress.

Handy name to know, Bluestreak, many thanks, noted as hopefully not being needed in the future.

BBA Reman has a mixed reputation. I know twosmoke300 on here doesn't rate them at all either.

Well, this little shitter has exceeded my 24hr attention span so I've drained all the petrol out of it and I'm filling it with scrap. It's amazing what you can find to throw out when you look about. The car is nearly full and I've only had a mooch in a garage, there's still 2 sheds to poke about in too!

Cheaper than a skip anyway.
