Had a nosey through this at Tesco today - nice little two pager about buying cars for 500 notes or less - some but not all of the usual suspects - Rover 200 cab, Citroen XM and the ubuitous Mundano.

I never thought I'd say it but I really like my Mondeo - very smooth and relaxing to drive, quiet, everything works etc. Owes me about £600 at the moment.Mind you, mine is a one owner from new Ghia so it should be nice.

Autocar do run quite a few articles on buying old cheap stuff which are usually pretty good. Someone in the editorial staff obviously likes their shite. :)

I find Mondeos vile. Much like the Mk6 Escort, the seats seem to be designed for circus freaks and it's impossibe to get a comfortable position, and the pedal layout is very odd.

'Fraid I have to disagree with you on this one Pog. I found my Mondeo Ghia X very comfortable to drive, seats were superb and I didn't notice anything amiss with the driving position. Agree with you about Mk6 Escorts though - the seats in those are appalling, I had backache after driving that LX back from Thirsk. I think Mk1 Escort seats were more supportive than those. Maybe the base Mondeos have the same seats as the Escort? I dunno, but the Ghia X seats were great.
