Old Top Gear programmes...

Inspired by Pillock's recent 'Top Gear 1993' thread, I've managed to acquire some old episodes (not the same as Pillock's ones, which I'm sure he will give you access to if you ask nicely...).

I thought you lot might be interested so I'll upload them for those who want to see them. I don't have an ftp so it'll have to be one at a time via sendspace. If you want to down load them, do it while you can as the links won't last forever.

The quality isn't fantastic but it's good enough. The most annoying thing is that they are in flv format. I play them in Winamp but there are lots of free flv players around if you can't play them.

Right, let's get started...

The first one is from 1986...

- New BMW 7 Series

- Report about second hand tyres

- Skoda 105S vs FSO 1300 vs Yugo 45A vs Lada Riva 1300SL

- A pilot scheme to introduce mobile phones into some RAC tow trucks

- Something about UB40 sponsoring a rally driver

Enjoy!

#2, from 1986 again...

- New Renault GTA Turbo

- Thing about using speed to advertise cars

- Serviceman garages in British Rail car parks

- Driving School that does week long crash-course things

- Jackie Stewart telling you that you must drive more smoothly

Cheers for the comments, I'll try to do some more today. I've got quite a few, probably all the episodes from 1989-1992 plus this couple of earlier ones, so it'll keep us going for a while...

Wonderful, thanks for putting them up.They are deathly dull though, only lifted by the old tin.

This might be a better way of distributing my files! It occured to me how deathly slow my uplink is, if I don't touch the computer downstairs and have nothing downloading you get maximum of 45k/sec.... for a 180mb Top Gear that's, erm, lots of hours! The other way of possibly doing it is to put them on my webspace, I allegedly have unlimited space and bandwidth due to my mates running the hosting company :) How they'll react to many gigs of TV shows on there remains to be seen though, I could bang a few up and see over the course of today.

They are a bit dull, definitely intended to be informative rather than entertaining...I put the lists of what's in the episodes up so people can choose to download the ones they are more interested in, I watch the more boring ones so you don't have to!The next one has Monego vs BX diesels content... stay tuned!

YES! I could get excited about that one.I'm actually quite enjoying the feature on the 7-series, with Chris Goffey focusing on all the obsessive details of the car

Mr Cox, I'm going to use Sendspace too, I'm just uploading 1992 at the moment and I think I've got 1991 and 1990 downloading so I'll turn them around and bung then on too when they've finished and I've checked them over.I'll post the descriptions when they're up, with the URL :)

I've got all the ones from that period too, I'll keep an eye on what you're posting so we don't put up the same ones.Would it be possible for you to upload 'that' A to B programme about the reps for us? That would be most excellent. I tried to get it from your ftp but my computer didn't like it for some reason. As for the TGs, as you've got some later ones than mine, perhaps you could start at the newest and we'll meet in the middle...

OK, I'll do the whole of the 1992 Series of Top Gear since it's already started, and I'll check where you're at when they've finished since you seem to be able to upload much faster than me :)

From A to B is also queued up and should be there sometime tonight.

Top Gear 1992 Episode 1:

Chris Goffey roadtests Ford's new XR3i

Tiff Needell asseses the importance of tyre tread depth

LOLZM.E.S.S.E.R.S.C.H.M.I.T.T.NOW LEARN IT!! I can see the appeal of Jeremy Clarkson now... he was the only person who was even slightly entertaining amongst all these newsreader-types...

This thread is made of old win!If anyone is wondering what media player they should use for these, I recommend VLC Media Player. Will play everything you throw at it, uses very little memory when running and best of all it's legally free. ;)

Missyschmit?Messyshitt?Bubblecar :)Can't work out if Jeremy Clarkson was trying too hard back then, or whether he was genuinely different. Certainly stood out from Chris Goffey and good ol' Willie Woollard though.I found a TG on VHS years ago, it was the roadtest of MG Maestro vs Astra GTE. Made me want a hot hatch but I was about 8 years too young to drive one :)

Sorry, I don't think so... probably a bit too old. there is a bit about the 21 hatch coming up though...

#9 - 21/09/89

- Alfa 164 vs Saab 9000 vs Lancia Thema

- A motorway jam warning system

- A report about unleaded petrol

- Jeremy Clarkson at the Beaulieu autojumble

#9 - 21/09/89- Alfa 164 vs Saab 9000 vs Lancia Thema

Presumably the 'fourth car' - Fiat Croma - didn't make the test as it had put a rod through the side of the block....
