Golf MK4 Window Regulator

Ok, its on a Seat Leon but its the same thing.

 

Anyone know where to get a decent one other then the dealers? Also does anyone know how much it would be from a dealer or any other places I can get an OEM one?

 

Pretty sure VAG built their doors gubbins to break, so far ive replaced the window regulator, door lock and interior handle cable.

Someone I work with paid about £80 for a genuine one from TPS in Stockton last year. 53 reg Seat.

Have you checked for parts on eBay, I fixed one on my stepdaughters golf with a kit off eBay, cos the plastic parts that fail so often you could buy kits to repair instead of replacing the regulator.

Clip kits are a major pain in the arse!!! You can get the mechs from euro car parts

You can get oil filters too but your unlikely to get it first time

If they're anything like a mk3 you can get them off eBay, I got one and it works great, it was a proper fucking wrestling match fitting it though.

I'm fishing for a recommended 3rd party one or genuine as the one in it at the moment from euro parts and was only replaced in the summer last year. No way im faffing about with wires and kits, theres enough faffing getting to the mech.

Done it a few times over the years. Only around £30 for the main clip and cable setup from the stealers iirc? Once you've done it more than twice, it's not that bad to be honest. Have your drill and rivet gun to the ready.

If its anything like the Audi setup then you might just get away with buying new clips..

I just bought two sets for both ns and os doors on a mates polo caddy and when the doors came apart the clips actually had seat stamped on them.

I bought them on eBay for around £3 a set and the quality seemed OK.

 

But when buying a complete window regulator mechanism be careful what you buy as some of the pattern parts are complete rubbish.

I just changed one on my old E36 and when I installed the new part it lasted all of 3 days before the rivets fell out (the original was spot welded).

So I found a second hand genuine example and fitted that and it's been trouble free.

Also the pattern part was half the weight and I think made of tinfoil.

Well done anyone who's gone inside a door on one of these chunks of shit, I went to investigate a central locking fault, under the door card was a big panel like on the back of a washing machine only way more fastenings, something else was hanging onto it and I quickly exhausted all patience, threw the bastard back together, fucked the leftover screws under the seat and said use the twatting key.

Sack it off and buy a Gooner, new mechs are £20 and can be fitted in 15 mins

Consulted ebay - £15 for a cheapo one (fix it every 2 years, hmmmm) or £60 for a Valeo one

Was going to say that GSF used to do the genuine VAG window regulators, did a trial in there a couple of years back and the boxes had VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda genuine parts lane on the box, I asked why as I didn't know they did genuine parts and they said the quality of aftermarket Ones was poor so they bulk bought genuine ones so they could knock them out at cheaper than dealers.

That'll be for the whole setup including mounting plate. If you're patient and have decent DIY skillz, you only need the clip and cable setup, which I'd personally buy direct from VAG/TPS. They revised the design of the clip so it was less shit; something an aftermarket sweatshop may have failed to have done...

 

*Edit: Just spotted Bollock's reply. He is right - you could go for the easy life* and buy a Lageroona as a stress-free* option instead.
