Boring but mildly uplifting Toyota story.

After a crap week last week, (van breakdown due to malfunctioning out of use alarm, then tools stolen from the same van in broad daylight, in a good area at school run time), I thought I should be due a break.

I jumped in my 280,000 mile Hiace yesterday, fired it up and was greeted by a mild grinding noise. It sounded like a shagged waterpump, because it was. It had a lot of play in it. By 14.00 I'd picked up a new one at a local factors so was ready to go this morning.

I arrived at my folks place at about 9.30, had a cup of tea, and by 11.15 I had it all done, it went so well that I didn't even rip my gloves, my hands were so clean after I'd finished I didn't need to wash them!

If only all of our automotive tasks went this smoothly.

.... I thought you had bought some 'wind up more height' ramps!

Well done, anyway :)

I mustard mitt that I find those stories where everything goes horribly wrong more entertaining.

They are also more congruent with my own experiences.

Jobs like this are always much easier when someone else does them. Sorry to hear about the gear theft man. Some people are bastard arseholes.

Nice motors to work on toyotas (as a rule) I will say.

Probably why 90% of the cars in west Africa are toyotas.

Even the guy who towed it in said the fuel pump didn't look too hard to get at I'm just pleased it wasn't that!

It's a tough old thing and easy to work on, I've done discs and pads in a leisurely couple of hours and rear dampers in an hour or so. Other than that it's not needed anything other than service items in the 60,000 I've owned it.
