2004 Toyota Celica 1ZZ-FE engine urgently required

This is urgent enough that I didn't want it to be ignored in the wanted thread for weeks.

A good friend of mine urgently needs a 143 hp 1.8 litre engine for his 54 plate Celica which is Japanese, thus reliable and never breaks.

Maybe a long call, but what is there to lose?

I can assure you that he got a lecture about the daftness to drive such newfangled Chinese shit.

I know where theres a nice low mileage 1Uz-fe going for £13 if he fancies an upgrade.

If he fancies an upgrade to the 2zz-ge 1.8 vvtli engine (190hp with the lift cam) I might have a spares or repairs corolla T-Sport available later

It came in the T-Sport Celica as standard

How involved would this conversion technically be and what are the implications on paperwork and insurenace?

I don't think it would be that hard a conversion but I'm a French car man at heart so I don't really do jap stuff. Obviously you'd have the whole car so that would help but it might not just drop in in an afternoon

Insurance would need to be told technically - it's still a 1.8, though

Is the motor the same as a mk3 MR2, Junkman?

If so, I may know where you will find one.

Q:  what is there to lose?

A: Oil.  About a litre every 600 miles if it's like mine.

GLW search.

How the hell should I know?

The way I understand this Chinese tosh, it's not the same from one Celica to the next, let alone a Datsun.

It's the same engine but is bound to have lots of detail differences due to totally different engine bay designs. Maybe a 1.8 VVT-i Corolla or Avensis engine would be more suitable? They're all 1ZZ-FE, bar the 190s/VVTL-Is

So your Corolla passed the MOT ok then? If you were parting it out, I could be interested in the 2zz, but I guess that's not an option for now?

There's a fella who is always breaking MR2 Roadsters, which share the 1zz lump. He's a really sound bloke and isn't a rip off merchant either - I've bought parts for mine from him as well. I'll pm his details.

It still failed but just not that badly :D - a colleague is buying it once it's done.

Ah, fair dos. I like the idea of a 2ZZ in the MR2, but the reality is that it would be a load of work on something which already drives like a go-kart.
