Montessa trial bike

Just bought a montessa cota 260cc.

Got it going but it seems the clutch is stuck as it's been standing for 3 years.

Any ideas on freeing it without stripping it? I've tried rocking it in gear but no luck. Sorry for no pics as I'm on my phone but it's a 1996,nice and clean, road registered @ £300

Bargain.

Prop bike so back wheel off ground

Start in N

put into 1st

rev

pull back brake on - one of two things will happen - plates will free off or bike will stall.

Repeat if latter

I employed this technique with a classic mini, worked a dream.

If plates are def stuck together try bungeeing lever against the handlebar and leaving for a few days.Worked on an old RM I had years ago.Failing that, remove clutch basket as a whole and dump it in a pan of boiling water for an hour. That'll sort it.

Fire it up, warm up a bit, paddle up to walking pace, put in gear while going at slow speed, pull clutch in and ride normally, if the clutch actually works, it'll very soon be free as a bird! It's a hydraulic clutch on those isn't it? If so, make sure the clutch arm is actually moving first... Enjoy, good bikes.

They do this, first check the gearbox oil for emulsion if none then find a good big place to ride go up through the gears holding the clutch in, once you are in 4th or 5th apply the back brake whilst holding the revs on, clutch will free off in a while.
