Update.

Started on the roof of the car port to protect the Royale. Half finished-waiting for the clear roofing sheets to arrive.

Now looking for some lights to light it up when dark.

Found these on the bay £22 for 5 20watt fittings.

Anyone got any experience of these or any other suggestions?

Kind regards as always

Yep, I changed out halogen outside light to one of those, next day neighbour asked if I could point it down a bit as it was keeping him awake at night when set off by local wildlife. This surprised me as it is not as bright as the halogen and was already pointing lower.

So, depending on whom you aim them at, yes they are excellent.

The only valid option, Shirley?

I do have a couple similar stored in the garage. But I don't think SWMBO would be happy!

In seriousness, I have some similar LED lamps here.

Good points, instant on. Bright. Cost pennies to run. Small enough to buy a bunch and hide them in the rafters.

Bad points, color gamut is horrible. Very narrow beam. Fairly expensive, though those cheapo ones are cheap enough to try a box of.

Personally, for large scale illumination, get a couple portable LED spotlights and have everyday illumination provided by 2 or 3 single tube florescents mounted on the back edge of the wooden cross beams.

That way you can't see them from the street (or the other way round, swmbo can't see them from the garden) and they have a bit of protection as they aren't the lowest point of the roof structure.

Depends how much light you need, really.
