Worrying. Are you inferring that the gearbox is only hanging about with the engine because "it's convenient" and as soon as something younger shows an interest it will go and hook up with that instead?

Pela pump is by far the cleanest and most convenient way to change the ATF. Filling through the dipstick tube is standard procedure on most automatics.
