Rangerover breakdown brexit killed my motah!

Nearly got stranded the other day, 23 year old Rangie running on LPG, gradually lost power which is how you run out of fuel autogas stylee, switched to petrol and nothing, flicking between fuels frantically then shouting about whores bastards offered little help. I was about half a mile from home and the two local stations that do the gas, but they're uphill, the car struggling to make it so had to investigate right there and then. I dismissed any of the fuel pump safety relays or inertia switch as the functional gas system is run via there, so took a look at the petrol pump first as it's gone all quiet like.

Bingo!!! It's fucked.

Nice plastic tank on the last of the proper Rangies, shame everything else rots for teh lolz, wiring entering the little pump in sender unit all decomposed, had to lift it out and yank out the inner wires to do a temporary twisty fix. Got me up the road to get gas where I unplugged it in case of booms. Pulled my finger out to repair the poorly part properly prior to picking petrol propulsion next, Bit of an arse as return pipe had gone a little thin and twisted off, had to solder on a copper piece.

Good old Landrover using decent proper olive and nut connections so I could fix this with bits I have kicking around, and the access panel in the boot floor a munificent touch.

Some zincy paint and wax, good as new, C U L8ER in 23 yrs bru.

You do have an enormously entertaining turn of phrase, Des, and consummate shite-tinkering skills.  More regularer updates, please.

Top work from teh_des. I had exactly the same happen on my old defender except the bastard ran out of LPG on the M25. The RAC picked me up and it took a little bit of persuading to get them to agree to just take me to the nearest petrol station with a gas pump and I'd be on my way. Luckily it started on gas OK!!

Nice repair!  My Discovery did the same, as you say- anything made of metal on a Land Rover dissolves into nothing if you so much as look at it the wrong way.  Plastic tank FTW.
