saucedoctor Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I recently got this modded ELM-based OBD scanner for the Focus. As you can see, it has a little toggle switch on it - this changes the baud rate, so it can do more, er, stuff. This seems to include the ability to read manufacturer-specific codes that a normal OBD reader can't do, reset airbags, that sort of thing. Basically, it's a regular ODB scanner, but with the ability to talk to, and modify the configuration of, various control modules within the car. It works on the Focus mk2/2.5, some Mondeos, the Kuga and can do some limited things on the later, diesel-engine Jaaaag X Types. For this, you use another free program called ELMConfig. I used it to turn on (and off) some stuff. Auto door locking wasn't enabled on my car, for example. You can enable it by fucking around with the internal door handle, but I lost the bap with it. I also turned off the auto rear wiper, cos it annoys me. I'll expand this a little later. Attached is the instructions for the FORSCAN program itself. Apparently, you can get it to run a DPF regen for you. EDIT: the laptop I was using for this has shat itself, so I'll get it installed on another one and get more screenshots.forscan-guide.pdf Richard, M'coli, Asimo and 1 other 4

sierraman Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Where do you source this? Can it code the TDCI injectors?

saucedoctor Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 "Fuel cap sensor"? Vacuum sensor in the fuel system. It's emissions-related, so if the cap isn't sealing, odd things happen. Sometimes the warning comes up, but is bogus. You use this to turn the warning off altogether. chaseracer 1
saucedoctor Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 Does it do Transits? There are some annoying features I'd like to disable. Dunno Richard. Have a Google for "Forscan" and ELMConfig" for Transit.
saucedoctor Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 Where do you source this? Can it code the TDCI injectors? I got the reader on eBay for £16.99, and the software is free from various websites. I don't know about coding injectors, I'm afraid. I imagine you need Ford IDS for that. http://forscan.org/ ELMconfig shizz & download: http://www.jamessimpson.co.uk/elmconfig-enable-ford-ecu-functions/

saucedoctor Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 Here are a few more screenshots. First, ForScan. This shows detected fault codes, and possible remedial action. (This is it in Demo mode, by the way, my Focus isn't fucked!) I think you would do the injector coding in the bit where the spanner is shown - I can't get it to come up even plugged into my car, as it's a 1.8 petrol. Next, ELMConfig. I'll not screenshot every screen, cos there are dozens and dozens of them. I'm sure you get the idea, though: What you can do, once connected, is read the existing setup configuration from the car, and save it to a file on the laptop/PC in case you fuck something up and the car goes crazy. So, In the case of the screen shown, you read from GEM, it populates the various bits that are enabled with tick marks, so you know what's turned on already. Then, "Save to File" and give it a meaningful name. Once you have ticked/unticked what you want, you would then "Write to GEM". There is an OMGSHITFUCK moment when all the systems in the car go offline, and you wonder if you've bricked it. Then it all wakes up again. The "Load From As Built" is supposed to pull the factory build from the internet (somewhere) with reference to your VIN, but I'm not sure where that "somewhere" is, therefore I'm not gonna chance using it.The Module abbreviations are as follows (it says on the screen anyway): Medium-Speed CANBUS (use the toggle switch on the OBD adapter if it tells you it's in the wrong mode - just put the switch the opposite way) GEM: General Electronics ModuleRCM: Restraints Control ModuleEATC: Electronic Automatic Temperature ControlDDM: Driver Door ModulePDM: Passenger Door ModuleRDDM: Rear Driver Door ModuleRPDM: Rear Passenger Door ModuleAHCM: Auxiliary Heater Control ModulePAM: Parking Assist ModuleACU: Audio Control UnitSRM: Speech Recognition ModuleKVM: Keyless Vehicle Module High-Speed CANBUS (use the toggle switch on the ODB adapter if it tells you it's in the wrong mode - just put the switch the opposite way) BCM: Brakes Control ModulePCM: Powertrain Control ModuleTCM: Transmission Control ModuleHEC: Hybrid Electronic ClusterEHPAS: Electro-hydraulic Power Assisted SteeringHCM: Headlamp Control ModuleFACM: Fuel Additive Control ModuleAWD: All Wheel Drive (Kuga/RS)
