Citroen airbag light MOT fail

Recommended Posts

The AIRBAG light has been on in my dads Berlingo since he bought it. It's been like a cataract glaring away, counting down the days til MOT time.

It failed in a few things but also obviously the bastard pain in the arse airbag light.

Apart from the Internet solution 'check wires' under the seat (which had never worked for me), what can I be hoping to do with this?

I believe there's a coiled ribbon cable in the steering column somewhere, which is always going to give trouble.

It might be worth looking on the French Car Forum to see if anyone near you has a Lexia to reduce the guesswork.

Has  it been scanned? Way forward rather  than guessing if it hasn't. Some air bag faults need resetting with a scanner even when the fault is repaired.

SIC's black tape idea would work - the current MoT rules say that if the airbag light doesn't illuminate at all then it's a pass.

What about flashing?

The Xantia's airbag light has gone back to flashing after it was gone for a month due to me fiddling with the wires under the seats. Fiddling with the wires under the seats this time hasn't helped.

However, its MOT isn't due until next March / April time, so meeeeh...

I may try taking the steering column cowl off today. If it's anything like the 306s I used to have, it should be simple enough.

Everything else on the test is fixable - rear parking brake below blah blah, big crack in windscreen, loads of bulbs and (you guessed it) a ball joint. It's my dad's old car and my mum wants it shifted now due to it being sat on the driveway for the past year.

Beyond wiggling wires and never finding someone with lexia I hope it doesn't end up scrapped because of a flipping bulb.

It's not a bulb, that's working, it's a failure in a system that could save your life in an accident.

Doesn't need to be Lexia - other third party diagnostic systems will read the airbag module such as the Dephi DS150
