I have been driving a school bus

1994 Fuso 41 seats 570000 km and only recently imported as it has done 3000 km in NZ.

Goes very well, was obviously city transport somewhere in Japan and has a 5 speed pre-selector box

Preselector you say? I wonder if that's like the old Daimlers... move the lever into position early, when you're ready push the change pedal (located where the clutch pedal normally is) and it shifts cogs.

Some ex UK bus shite over there too - these started life in Reading

Sfar as I know the same..Can be used as a manual or select next gear and "dip" the clutch an it changes instantly..great for racing the other drivers :D SO I HAVE BEEN TOLD.EX Reading! Must be in Auckland as thats Birkenhead transport at the rear .I'm actually changing jobs tomorrow. New Co. has a lot of Optare all bought new in the last 2 years, it will be interesting to try them .

With preselectors, can you come to a stop without having to use the 'clutch' pedal? Sure I drove a Daimler Ferret where this was the case, but that was a while agon now...

Arrgghhhh my eyes

Sitting in there looking at them seats must be absolute hell if you are feeling the effects of the previous evenings alcohol consumption

Wonder why the UK doesnt get many Japanese made buses/coaches? I cant think of many, apart from the Toyota Coaster.

That seat fabric is truly appalling.I nearly got wiped out by a B-reg Leyland Olympian earlier, as it tanked down a steep hill at really quite unwise speeds, and even as my life was flashing (well, trundling) before my eyes I was reminiscing about travelling to school on one, and regretting not having my camera handy for this site. I'm such a geek.
