I reckon this is one of the best car shows down this part of the world.  Weather always seems to be favourable, there's a good variety and it's such a nice place for a show.  Here's a selection.

Had a long chat with the owner of this Audi 100GL, he's had it 36 years!  And owns five Austin Sevens too.

Wyvern or Cresta, very tasteful

However the best sight today I didn't even get a picture of.  Driving back down the A38 I saw a late 70s LHD Tatra 613, on a UK 'T' plate, driving in front of me.  It was delightfully scruffy and used looking, and looked totally nondescript, but was one of the most amazing things I've seen.  Gave him a big thumbs up; driver was probably not used to anyone recognising it.  Pulled off at Ashburton, wonder if it's local

Great stuff, lovely pics.   The Vauxhall is actually a Velox but painted and accessorised like a Cresta.

Jensen is gorgeous, just superb....

Dash shot is from a Minx rather than Rapier.

Found the Tatra I spotted on the way back!  It was fairly local after all.

What a gloriously scruffy, unique oddball.  It was going some on the motorway too, had trouble overtaking.  Must be that V8 working hard.

Great to see the Accord, Concerto and Bluebird at a show. Do like that Audi too.

Audi is lovely. I had one a year older. In about '75 they switched to an ever-so-slightly more squared off edge to the ends of the grille and wings. It's been all down hill since then.

Tatra is ace! A nice mess.

That tatra has a lot of Chrysler alpine going on.

Carlo you must be really local to me.

Killerton looks an excellent show, sad I missed that.

That Tatra is the one I put in the spotted thread recently. The owner has a variety of interesting other motors there too, theres a few Skoda's and a VW T25 County parked on the road. He gets them worked on at my mate's garage. I've got an engine video of the Tatra somewhere. Not sure if it's the fella posted, will ask my mate.

Hi DrJ I'm in Ivybridge.  I reckon the best two shows down this way are Killerton and Powderham, both near Exeter.  Always a good selection and nice atmosphere.

I just wish there was more stuff like that Tatra at the local shows.  The thrill of seeing it overtake me on the A38 was briliant,

I've never heard of that show before - will definitely have a look another year. As for the Tatra, it's the first I'd heard of them, and I totally agree with Faker - the designers must have closely studied the Alpine and then some.

Edit: Just looked up Tatra and that black one looks like a T613? Is it seriously packing an air cooled V8 in its arse end?!

Tatra has always been a favourite of mine.  Being believers in unconventional but effective design and engineering makes them fascinating to observe at a safe distance.  Owning one can be a bit like having a Citroen DS i.e. labour intensive - and they rust.  Even their commercial vehicles are worth a look.  How does an 8x8 air cooled V12 diesel with all independent suspension (swing axles) and a backbone chassis grab you?

The Tatra 613 was styled by Vignale and predates the Simca 1307/Talbot Alpine.

Tatras have been packing air cooled V8s in their arse ends since 1933.

Yes I think probably the last thing Tatra designers did was to sit down and study the Chrysler Alpine.

Air cooled rear engines and backbone chassis have long been a hallmark of Tatra. They were the brainchild of Hans Ledwinka, a Czech pioneer of car design. One of Mr Ledwinka's scholars was a fellow Czech called Ferdinand Porsche, who later became a naturalised Austrian citizen and famous for designing the KdF Wagen, which was largely done by copying Mr Ledwinka's design principles.

Might as well add some more Tatra photos then. This is the same one having it's suspension redone. The owner flew to (insert Slav nation) with the struts in his hand luggage and had them rebuilt by a man in a shed. How's that for parts availability!

Is this the one and same Tatra? If so, it's for sale...
