Anyone here any good with servos?

It looks like the servo on my newly acquired dolomite isn't working. I drove it Friday for the first time and the pedal was very hard. I have had a play today and the pedal doesn't go down when the engine starts and it makes no difference with the vacuum pipe on or off. I plan to get a length of vacuum tube to try that just in case it's the simple fix. The car was sat for a few months before I got it. Second hand servos for these seem a bit thin on the ground. So what I want to know is:

1, does anyone know a way to test a servo beyond the pedal drop when turning on? I have access to a vacuum pump but no gauge

2, is it possible that something has just stuck through lack of use? If so, how do you get it moving again?

3, has anyone rebuilt one? And any tips?

4, does anyone know where there is one or any from other cars that would fit?

I'm not much help but when we rebuilt mine there wasn't much to it, We took it out and replace the seal and rubber boot and that was about it.

My problem was then pedal kept dropping when you had your foot on it, I don't think the servo was our issue in the end but a knackered wheel cylinder instead.

Thanks for the link. Did the two halves come part ok? I have heard they can be a bit of a git.

We couldn't split it so just replaced what we could see, I wasn't even sure if they did split!

There should be a check valve on the servo pipe work somewhere . Make sure that's ok .

Also worth pulling the master cyl forward and checking the servo isn't half full of fluid .

the check valve is nice and easy to get to. Is it just a one way valve?

Pretty much . It makes sure the servo keeps vacuum in it after engine has switched off for faster build of vac on start up
