smellmycheese Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I've just bought a car purely to fix and move on from a friend of a friend and I'm unsure about the logbook bit. I don't want to put it in my name cos it'll be done and for sale before v5 would be back from dvla. I also don't want hmrc looking at me if I fill in the 'sold to a trader bit' but think this is the way to go. How would I go about selling it if I fill in the trader bit? Apologies for being a bit thick
Kiltox Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 If it's "with trade" you fill out the n keeper details on the main section when you sell it (the bit you'd normally complete when you buy a car)
Pillock Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Yeah if it's in trade you send the trade slip off and keep the rest of the logbook for when it's sold. This won't generate a new logbook until you sell it on, and it won't add to the number of keepers. Not sure if you can do this online or not....
Alexg Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I've filled out the trade bit with my name and home details on it 3 or 4 times when looking to buy and punt on. I never heard anything from it.
twosmoke300 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Put the name and addy of a car sales lot or garage that has pissed you off in the past loserone, HH-R and The Old Bloke Next Door 3
garbaldy Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 When I use the trader section I write like I've had my hand sat on by an elephant, I don't know why I bother really as my postcode only covers five houses,
Kiltox Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 To be fair nobody actually gives a shit what is written on the slip - the only machine readable bits are the date, mileage and VAT number...... Cars pass between traders constantly without it being updated too Craig the Princess 1
jollyfkr2 Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Having said that if you do the change of owner stuff on line you'll get the V5 back in a couple of days, srsly
