Clarke CW2D Part Washer - repair

Recommended Posts

The other day I picked up my parts washer from the place where I store some stuff. It was at the same location, very nearby where my DAF 44 got a bit toasted.

This is how I found it...

A wee bit charred and someone in my absence had the bright* idea of grafting on a moulded plug to replace the melted original.

Switch got Westoned and doesn't rock, but the housing seemed ok after a clean-up.

Inside the switch housing faired well.

And none of the paint has come off it, only discoloured.

Internally it's spotless, I haven't used it much at all with it not being near. I can't even remember when I bought it, but it must have been quite a few years ago as the VAT was only 17.5% on it.

Any recommendations of what red toolbox (enamel?) paint to tart it up with?

(I'll have to wait around for four weeks to get a cheap switch or two from China. The long game is to add some filtration to it and maybe something to heat the washer fluid.)

I wouldn't try and heat anything in it, asking for trouble IMHO.

The pumps on these and the bigger models are a pain in the arse, by the way, I think the (hopeless) filter is attached to it, but you're talking about a shit bit of sponge.

Have you tried Machine Mart for a switch?

I'm not completely mad, wouldn't be heating anything flammable up, probably the rather tame citrus-type cleaners to liven them up a bit, but that's further down the line.

I haven't tried Machine Mart for a switch. I'm sure they'll lighten my pocket too much, especially as it's a bog-standard DPST light-up 10A switch. I can get two of them with the rubbery covers delivered for about £1.50 via AliExpress and £1.72 from a Hong Kong Ebay seller.

Machine mart aren't too bad for bits generally, not as cheap as Chinese eBay for generic bits but ok for other stuff.
