Sorry this is about a horrible modern - 58 plate Clio. Long and very boring story of it's arrival here which I won't bore you with

Mrs has just got home in it and the side lights won't go out. No tail lamps on, just the front end. Tried turning the wanky "auto lights" on and off to no avail... I've ended up fumbling around to find a spanner and disconnecting the battery.

Any shiters come across this?? A quick Google is pretty unhelpful but some bloke mentions a relay. Bazza Cade, Joe Spud... help...!!

PS Anyone wanna buy a Clio....?

It's not a different switch for parking lights is it?

On my old Mondeo, I used to catch the headlamp switch with my knee upon disembarking, which put it into P mode.

That gave headlamps and taillamps, but no interior lamps to give the game away so I was reliant on neighbours knocking on my door to tell me. Again.

I think I better find the handbook

The indicator stalk is central, isn't it? I know sometimes they have those weird parking lights on modern cars these days.

Is the headlamp relay still in the passenger footwell of those? Used to be an issue with them getting kicked by passengers, but that was on the older Clio IIRC.

I'd start as HH-R has said by disconnecting the battery for a bit to give it a restart.

If that fails then it could be that either the UPC (Under bonnet fusebox) or UCH (Body computer) has got wet/damaged. I believe its the UPC that does side lights and I don't think there is a relay for them as such.

Cheers all, removing the battery and putting it back on did the trick, let's see if it lasts.

Because French. Give it twenty years with the car, and it'll have gone from 'bloody annoying' to 'old car character'. Not that a modern Clio is likely to be around in twenty years, of course.

Nah its a common thing on all modern stuff. Everything is computer controlled and while the battery is connected its on (even if it supposed to go to sleep mode with the ignition off). Disconnecting the battery does a reboot.

At least diag tools aren't needed to do it! Well most manufacturers ...

Another thing is batteries that are tired aren't a good mix either.

It will be lucky if it's still here in twenty days, everyone moans about Lucas stuff but at least it could be fixed with a penknife, a foil biscuit wrapper and some good old British hope.

Interesting you say that, as it's a tad lazy on a cold morning (1.5 DCi)
