tooSavvy Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 .... on these dampers. This is P.No TRW JGS118T  http://www.autodoc.co.uk/trw/2198309 This damper is standard fitment on Proton WIRA, Colt, Lancer & Volvo S40. ALL the units I have so far found for sale, new, have a welded-on spring cup.  Has anyone any knowledge of an alternative Damper maufacturer who does this unit with this 'loose cup' arrangement? Great Expectations.... of the A$ Massive   TS * Its going on the SAVVY so NO SPRING CUP only option......
tooSavvy Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 Hmm.. So then, I'm ploughing a lone furrow? No terrors there. 'Buy a Savvy - see the World' [from a slightly different angle!]  TS

Des Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Going stance Bra? Radicals dude, hash that awesomz tag bru Stating the obvious but wouldn't 10 mins of careful action with a disc grinder decup a damper? mmmm, D cups... Do please stop and have a word should you find yourself cable tying an old heater matrix off the grill. tooSavvy and Dave_Q 2
tooSavvy Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 ^^^^ THIS - of course 'angle action' is Option.2 However.... Fa christ sake!! SOMEONE must supply a damper (coil over) with a 'non welded' cup? Obviously, I can buy the one in the linkkie but it looks a bit 'non in stock - 2yr lead time' webbie snakeoil - No one seems to be a uk factor stockist of TRW dampers? Lolz on cable ties.....  TS

tooSavvy Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 Translation: A lot of service parts and consumables are godawful expensive for my Proton Savvy, I'd like to find a cheaper alternative that might fit without altering my car. Good luck TS!EFA Appreciate the sentiment  TS hairymel and Lacquer Peel 2
fordperv Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 If all else fails I'm sure if you ring gaz shocks they will knock something up for you, don't know how much the cost would be though tooSavvy 1

tooSavvy Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 YaY.... scored the mank one @ £20 delivered ... unfortunately only ONE listed  Lateral thinking, however, got me a Fleebay search to turn over ALL the stones and I found another [N.O.S.] @ £15 delivered.  Will have to remove spring seats... $hite  Ah well.....  TS Lacquer Peel 1
tooSavvy Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 As an 'aside'....... I bloody H8 dodgy internet payment... don't we all?? I'm using a POCKIT pre-pay debit card, brand new for me..... I popped over to my local 'ethnic' cornershop >> loaded £40 (they deduct 99p loading fee) and instantly had £39.01 to spend . My webbie login has instantly shown the card 'ON £LOAD' and subsequent card 'OFF £PAYMENT', with £BALANCE remainder. I put all the detail of the card onto the web.... and if anyone is 'shadowing me' they might buy a Ice Cream, in Bangkok, with what is left on the card. I cannot fault it.... YaY!!! TS mercrocker and Lacquer Peel 2
tooSavvy Posted March 24, 2016 Author Posted March 24, 2016 Aye, well..... Bit of 'modding' and I now have 2x GAS dampers to fit. Not bad for £35, all in   * Just cut the spring pan off this one...... and repainted it. TS Lacquer Peel, dave21478, andrew e and 1 other 4
Lacquer Peel Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Nice work TS, I enjoy your tales of improvising parts to fit the Savvy. tooSavvy 1
tooSavvy Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 Sadly, though, my suspicions are a mass cull of Savvy as "How ffinn much!!" repairs hit 'cheap runabout' owners. OTOH I'm going to be in a clover patch, for panels & parts, as they are broken  Some guy in Hexham is currently hawking a complete back axle (from a 60plate) - drums/abs/dampers/brake pipes/hb cables - bolt straight in!! @ £140. TS Lacquer Peel 1
