MoTd/usable yellow 2002 New Beetle 1.6 with sunroof, £350

Turns out the kit to rebuild the clips actually does the clips and the regulator for £8, which seems hard to believe, but...

Right, window mechanism removed, what a thoroughly horrible design.

From now on any suggestion of purchasing, swapping or otherwise getting involved with anything made by VAG after the Mk II Golf will be met with firm "not if it were free".

It'll be getting a new window regulator installed (since they really do appear to be £8 - I bet that'll last a LONG time) and reassembled to a certain point, but I'm leaving the door trims off so a new owner can decide if they want to refit the damaged ones, or just sort all the broken crap out. And it'll be heading towards Gumtree/eBay very soon if no-one wants to grab it at this bargain price.

Not mine - was Keith's, now sold - I'd been looking after it for a few years! Lovely thing to drive, felt electric & alive.

If there were a Beetle breaker nearby I'd probably go raiding for parts, but really - I just want it gone. My sense of "I bid on it so I should buy it" is now gone, and I will walk away from the next car that turns out to have been "some condensation = it's been bodged by a moron and filled with water". I got it so far but the damage to the interior from past 'repair' attempts depresses me.

On the upside, these are still popular and it's an appealing colour with a sunroof, so someone with a decent scrappy nearby and more time could probably make it really nice. It does drive quite well - it's all trim stuff that is a PITA.

Well, I've ordered the new regulator and a set of 12-point bits to deal with the daft screws for the locks & so forth. One way or another this thing is going :D

Gumtree, right? Is it actually designed to be full of no-show idiots?

Anyway, I have a window regulator, I have tools, I have time. So the window is getting fixed tomorrow. I might even do the door lock, make a list of broken clips/switches to source, and so forth, but this is still very much for sale.

Comedically, given my anti-VAG raging, there's an Audi A2 in my barn right now and the Twingo is probably going...

^^ Se I knew you would weaken re: an Audi.

...and the Twingo is probably going...

Bugger.

I may still fix the Twingo before it goes. And if I fix it, I may like it more than the A2, you never know :) There are no firm plans yet. It definitely won't be scrapped or anything like that, I wouldn't do that. It's just a matter of weighing up fixing the head gasket and any other issues, or just parting with it as is without having got to enjoy it first.

The idea is to have a fleet of three "plus visitors".

C140 V8-flavour

SLK (of course)

Small economical car. That was going to be the Twingo until I tried the A2 and discovered that when Audi are allowed to do something clever, it bloody works. We'll see how I feel AFTER I've worked on the droplinks though ;) It helps that the Audi has the OpenSky roof and the Twingo also has the panoramic top - though the Twingo one is the one that actually works!

The hearse is unlikely to pass another MoT, the XJS scares the living daylights out of me as a long-term prospect (someone's viewed it and they at least say the body is good - and pointed out the rust in the rear 1/4s with more accuracy, but reckon that's easy to sort and they're all like that), the Beetle is going, the 406 is sold, the MGF I think I need to just sell for parts it's so rotten on that 1/4 panel...

£350 too cheap.

Fix regliator and £895 classified ad.

I've got my Mrs a 2002 E46 318i - she would have liked this.

My neighbour was foaming at the mouth for it but they have a 2002 Fester now.

And it's gone.

Too cheap at £350, but it hung around long enough, so no... and honestly, I could have fixed it, but I'd had enough.
